Rugby: Accies' draw in cup has added spice

EDINBURGH ACCIES will be looking to draw on the memory of one of their most outstanding Scottish Cup victories when they once again travel to Currie for a second-round tie.

Back in season 2006-07 Accies, then a Division Two outfit, launched a spirited run that was to take them all the way to the final by beating Currie in a floodlight encounter.

The draw produced a number of all-Premiership clashes with Heriot's facing a daunting trip to Dundee High, scene of a recent league defeat for the reigning cup holders. Likewise Stewart's Melville must visit Ayr where they suffered their heaviest league defeat of a testing season, 66-15.

For Boroughmuir there is the prospect of a meeting with Perthshire but that is provided they first overcome Kirkcaldy in a much-postponed preliminary clash followed by a win at Cartha QP.

Fresh from ousting three-times winners Glasgow Hawks the challenge now for Second Division Stirling County is to upset Selkirk with the tie again scheduled for their Bridgehaugh ground.

Scottish Hydro Premier Cup Round 2 draw: Currie v Edinburgh Academicals, West of Scotland v Howe of Fife, Ayr v Stewart's Melville, Aberdeen Grammar or Ardrossan Academicals (match due on 27 February) v Gala, Stirling County v Selkirk, Peebles or Melrose (match due 27 February) v Falkirk, Dundee High v Heriot's, Cartha Queens Park v Kirkcaldy or Boroughmuir (match due 27 February) or Perthshire.
