Teenage girl raped near busy golf course

A TEENAGE girl was dragged into undergrowth and raped on a busy golf course.

The 16-year-old was attacked as she walked home after leaving a friend at Littlehill Golf Club in Bishopbriggs, Glasgow.

A man approached her from behind and tried to speak to her before grabbing her and dragging her into undergrowth near the 10th green where he raped her.

Strathclyde Police yesterday appealed for information about the incident, which happened at around 8pm on 10 September.

Detective Constable Alan Watt said: “We know that there were golfers still playing on the course around the time of the incident and it’s possible that someone may have seen the suspect prior to, or after the attack took place.

“I would appeal to people who were on the course that evening to please get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.

“A young woman has been subjected to a terrifying ordeal and it’s imperative we trace the man responsible.”

The girl and her friend had been at the course from about 5pm but they had not been golfing. She was attacked as she walked in the direction of Auchinairn Road.

Officers have been checking CCTV images and carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the surrounding area. The golf course is overlooked by houses on Acredyke Road in Balornock.

Police said it was possible someone may have seen the suspect walking across the course. He is described as Scottish and aged between 25 and 30. The man was around 5ft 8in, of medium build and wearing a dark-coloured jacket and dark trousers.

Meanwhile, a woman was robbed and sexually assaulted in a Glasgow park as she walked to work.

The 49-year-old was passing through Cranhill Park near Edinburgh Road when a man attacked her and pushed her to the ground.

He struck her on the face and body, then snatched her handbag and the jewellery she was wearing. He then sexually assaulted the woman before running off in the direction of Crowlin Crescent.

She was later treated in hospital for injuries to her face and arm.

Strathclyde Police appealed for information about the incident which happened at about 7:25am on Sunday.

Constable Gillian Erskine said: “Extensive inquiries are ongoing to trace the suspect who subjected this lady to a terrible assault which has naturally left her very shaken.

“As well as conducting door-to-door inquires and checking local CCTV, I would like to appeal to anyone who was in and around Cranhill Park on Sunday morning and may have seen this man or the assault take place to contact me as soon as possible, as it is vital that we trace the suspect.”

The man is described as Scottish and aged around 20, 5ft 8in, of slim build and with blond hair. He was wearing light-coloured clothes which may have been part of a tracksuit.
