Pensioner dies six days after mugging

AN ELDERLY man has died in hospital six days after he was mugged in a Stirling underpass.

The 88-year-old, who has not been named, was attacked as he made his way through an underpass at the foot of Lover's Walk, near Stirling's Riverside district, on Tuesday shortly before 3pm.

The attacker grabbed the pensioner's walking stick and, after a short scuffle, pushed him to the ground, where he was later found by passers-by and taken to hospital.

The attacker is thought to have fled into the city's Wallace Street, possibly still carrying his victim's stick.

Police believe the same man - described as 21 to 40 years old, around 6ft tall, slim, with a Scottish accent, short dark hair and wearing a blue jumper and dark trousers - may have attacked a 70-year-old woman later the same day in Callander. Although badly shaken, the woman was otherwise unharmed.

Officers have appealed for information for both incidents.
