Park and ride tourist boost

PLANS to create a new park and ride facility in North Berwick could encourage thousands more tourists into the area, it has been claimed.

East Lothian Council has allocated 600,000 in its budget for the creation of the facility and work has begun to identify a possible site.

The new facility will run about once every 15 minutes and connect the site to the town's tourist attractions, as well as Tesco, North Berwick Sports Centre and the train station.

North Berwick Coastal councillor David Berry said: "At the moment, North Berwick's tourism potential is pretty much plugged because the town isn't big enough to accommodate all the cars trying to get into it.

"The only sensible thing to do is to have a very cheap park and ride facility and get lots more people into the town."
