Jay, a Hearts fan who had been celebrating the end of term with friends from Preston Lodge High School in East Lothian, had taunted him about his team’s famous 5-1 Scottish Cup victory over Hibs.

Griffiths reportedly tweeted: “Wouldn’t u bite if u were out enjoying ur day with family??? Rediculous [sic].”

Jay, who told a teacher about the altercation, said: “I shouted 5-1 and 1902 at him. I wasn’t in his face but I was quite close. I think he’s a really good player but he should be more professional. He’s got a short fuse.”
