Four youths held after tense two-hour stand-off with armed police

FOUR youths were detained yesterday by Tayside Police following an armed siege at a house in Dundee.

Firearms officers from the force were deployed during the two-hour incident yesterday morning at a two-storey semi-detached house in St Kilda Road in the St Mary's area.

Streets around the siege area were sealed off as police moved in to make the arrests during the tense stand-off.

A spokesman for Tayside Police said: "Following information received by Tayside Police, officers attended a house in St Kilda Road, Dundee, to execute a search warrant.

"Four people taken from the house are currently helping police with their inquiries.

"An 18 year-old man was arrested in relation to an unconnected matter and is expected to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court at a later date."

He added: "Due to the nature of the inquiry, four firearms officers were deployed. However at no time during this incident was there any risk to public safety. Public safety was paramount in the planning of this operation. Tayside Police would like to thank local residents, who may have been affected by the police activities, for their support and understanding."
