The illegal occupation of Iraq by British forces was based on a lie by Tony Blair and has been an unmitigated disaster from beginning to end.

Hundreds of thousands of civilians, as well as hundreds of military personnel, have died in vain. The failure to train Iraqi forces or to develop any kind of modern infrastructure or civil society is demonsrated by the fact that it is the US, not the Iraqis, who will be taking over now.

Hang your head in shame, Tony Blair.

I can’t speak for any improvement or deterioration of conditions in Iraq, but the sending of British troops has certainly not left the world as a whole a better place. The whole affair was a powerful recruiting sergeant for extremism and terrorism across the globe. Whether the withdrawal of Britons from Basra and their replacement by hated Amercian troops has a beneficial impact, we shall wait and see.
