A MAJOR North Sea rescue operation was launched last night after a yacht taking part in a European tall ships race became flooded, 125 miles off the UK coast.
An RAF Sea King helicopter was scrambled from Boulmer in north east England, and a Norwegian helicopter from the Ekofisk platform, after the 60ft Clyde Challenger sent out a distress call at 10pm. The RAF Rescue Centre said all 13 crew members, aged between 15 and 25, had been safely rescued by a nearby ship called Royale.
