WELSH RARE BIT(E)

An Angus woman who sought £160,000 in damages from a dog owner after being hurt by an over-friendly labrador has had her case thrown out.

Patricia Welsh, 55, suffered a dislocated knee and claimed the pain had forced her to give up her job as a college lecturer.

However, a judge said the dog's owner could not be held responsible over a "pure accident" and stressed that courts must not help create a society "bent on litigation".

MP ESCAPES RAP

Disgraced Tory Derek Conway, the MP caught paying his student son a £45,000 salary to do research, will not be charged.

Scotland Yard blasted the House of Commons expense system and said prosecutors had advised them the "lack of systems" in Westminster would "severely undermine the viability of any probe".

Conway has had his party's whip withdrawn, and an overhaul of the expense system has been urged by Gordon Brown.

HYSLOP CHINA BID

Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop will continue her plans to travel to China next month despite calls for her to cancel the trip in protest at the country's reaction to demonstrations in Tibet.

She is travelling to China to help forge stronger links between Scottish and Chinese schools.

Tavish Scott, a Liberal Democrat MSP, had asked the minister to abandon her plans and not to turn a blind eye to the violent protests in the province.

Someone should tell that numpty Whig that Tibet is a country that was illegaly invaded and annexed by the Chinese government. It is not a province.

As for that fool of an Education Secretary, someone should tell her that going to China will be seen by the Chinese government as tacit support for their genocide of the Tibetan people, as well as their destruction of the Tibetan culture and religion. Though obviously her little overseas holiday is more important to her than the genocide of the Tibetan people.
