THE government considered changing the title of Prince of Wales to Prince of Scotland as a response to Irish independence in the 1920s.
The previously unpublished revelation, contained in restricted files, shows how the government was concerned about quashing nationalist sentiment north of the Border.

The plan was strongly rejected by King George V, who felt it would devalue existing titles used by the heir to the throne when he was in Scotland. The suggestion is revealed in correspondence between Buckingham Palace and Scots-born former Prime Minister Arthur Balfour, which is held in the private restricted section of the National Archives of Scotland in Edinburgh.

A 1924 letter from the Palace to Balfour, then a Conservative party elder statesman and monarchy and parliament go-between, states: "His Majesty does not smile upon the idea of a committee to consider the use of the title of 'Prince of Scotland' by the Prince of Wales.

"As you know his Royal Highness is Prince and Great Steward of Scotland."

So, if Scotland does become independent, will you stil l retain the Queen as head of state, or will you become a republic, or get your own, Scottish monarch?

It's shite being Scottish! We're the lowest of the low. The scum of the f***ing Earth! The most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat on civilisation. Some people hate the English. I don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are colonised by wankers. We can't even find a decent culture to get colonised by. We're ruled by effete arseholes. It's a shite state of affairs to be in.

But not for much longer.

Are you all disappointed by George V's decision? You have been deprived of the honor of having the current royal duke and his Mrs. as your own. How does Duke Charles of Scotland sound?

Of course, there's always Francis II (Franz Bonaventura Adalbert Maria von Wittelsbach), eldest son of Albert of Bavaria and Countess Maria Draskovich von Traskotjan, and heir to the Stuart dynasty (or so the web site below claims). Frank the II (born in Munich on July 14, 1933) attended the University of Munich and Zurich where he studied business management.

As heir to the Holy Roman Empire as well as the geniune Jacobite heir to the Scottish throne, Frank already has an apartment in Schloss Nymphenburg. Frank also speakes English, French, German, and Hungarian. One final note: Frank's family was imprisoned by the Nazis in a concentration camp during the final years of World War II.

Scotland is a kingdom, not a princedom and that is a problem for the monarchy.

I think Prince/Princess of Wales sounds so much better than Prince/Princess of Scotland. Not only that but It doesn't sit well with the first born boy who by tradition is the Prince of Wales. I think that if any one should receive the title Prince of Scotland, then it should be a fourth or fifth son. Not only that but I like tradition and the Welsh Principality ruled by it's Prince and Princess of Wales has a nice ring.

I also think that whomever William marries should get the title Duchess of Edinburgh because its only fair.

I was under he impression that the monarch of Scotland was correctly titled Her Grace The Queen of Scots, Queen Elizabeth the First.

Her eldest, the prince wingnut, isn't he the Lord of The Isles and Duke of Rothesay?

Prince of Scotland?
Couldn't be, the monarch has always been King or Queen of Scots not of Scotland. ie of the Scottish people NOT the country.

Think about it.

Charles etc, Prince of Scots? nah....

12. Ms Wales, United States
A more fitting title might be Duchess of Belgravia, or, Sloan Street.
