Yes, it’s disgusting what some of those foulmouthed presenters earn – and all of it out of our license fee. Its nearly as bad as the Westminster expenses scam. Doesn’t the BBC have to follow a charter that tells it what it can and can’t do as a public broadcaster? That needs to be change to prevent old dinosaurs like Wogan hogging the cash and the limelight. There must be plenty of talent out there for half the cost.

I don’t like Jonathan Ross or his ilk one bit, but the BBC are only chasing ratings like Premier league sides chase goals – and look at the obscene sums they pay for their players.

I’d be delight if the Beeb ditched all its stars at a stroke, but if it started losing the battle for primetime, everyone would be baying for license cuts. Remember the corporation is bribing these folks to stay away from the competition.

After the investigation into politicians' expenses and hopefully next the House of Lords and MEPs, we need to look urgently at expenses incurred by the BBC and not just at so-called celebrity earnings. With costs now running into billions, there literally IS something wrong with this picture.

Is the BBC there to win ratings wars (with our own money!) or is it as I seem to recall there to inform as a public service? There does appear to be a mad scramble for taxpayer cash to inflate wallets of the hierarchy as well as the stars.

As an example on non-value for money, having listened to the inane blethering of Chris Moyles and sycophantic acolytes on Radio 1 yesterday morning you could save £600,000 pa by going down to any pub and recording the banter.
