What better way to instil into a generation of kids that education is an irksome chore rather than a privilage – a ticket to a life of opportunity – than to bribe them to stay in class? I would take some persuading that it is ever worth paying to keep any teenagers in school, especially when their attitude is bound to be detrimental to those only to keen to further their education.

It seems a pity that just as thousands are being made redundant and jobs are thinner than ever on the ground that we’re thrownig even more people on to the job market. How absurd when it seems we’ve been paying MPs thousands to do up their luxury pads and banks billions to stop going bust – not to mention meeting their pensiion obligations. We’ll soon be paying those kids a hell of a lot more in handouts if they leave education with zero qualifications.
