GORDON Brown has offered to hold Darfur peace talks in London "as soon as practically possible" to try to find a way of ending the humanitarian crisis.
The Prime Minister is already in "intensive talks" with the Sudanese government, the UN and African mediators, and now wants to bring a major summit to the UK.
Fighting between government troops and a badly splintered rebel movement has led to hundreds of thousands of deaths in Darfur and pushed millions from their homes.
A Downing Street spokesman said: "This is a formal offer to hold these talks in London.
"We want to have talks with all parties concerned as soon as practically possible. We are continuing to work intensively with the Sudanese government, the UN and African mediators."
