Serena Williams back to her best

SERENA Williams made it back-to-back tournament victories with a 6-4 6-2 win over Samantha Stosur in the Rogers Cup final in Montreal last night.

The win, her 39th career title, comes after the American's success in the Bank of the West Classic two weeks ago and is a boost ahead of the US Open at Flushing Meadows which begins on 29 August.

A year out of the game through injury and illness saw Williams' world ranking drop to 80 but her successes will see her soar back to 31st. She showed she was back to her best in no uncertain terms as she dismantled the world No 11 in just 77 minutes.

Williams broke the Australian's serve to go 5-4 up in the first set and went on to break Stosur twice more in the second set before clinching victory with an ace, one of nine she hit in the match.
