Prso believes Nikica Jelavic would be a great fit for Rangers

RANGERS target Nikica Jelavic is a player in the mould of former Ibrox favourite Dado Prso - according to the man himself.

The one-time Ibrox forward is admirer of the Rapid Vienna striker, who has spoken publicly of his desire to sign for Walter Smith's side. Rangers have had an offer of 2 million knocked back, with Rapid holding out for double that fee.

Prso, 35, believes his 24-year-old countryman could be worth every penny.

The Croatian said: "I saw him play for Croatia a couple of times over the past year or so and I have been really impressed.

"Like myself, he arrived in international football a little bit later than some of the others, but you can see his potential.

"He is tall and strong on the ball, he can hold it up and bring other players into the game and he can score goals.

"His biggest strengths are his work-rate and his courage; he isn't afraid to go into 50-50s and get hurt. You could say his mentality and his style of play would be very well suited to Scottish football. I always gave everything for the team and I can see similarities with Nikica. And I think the Rangers fans would appreciate that, as well.

"In Glasgow, the fans expect to see their players give their all and that's how he plays. But he's not just a targetman - he's a more complete player than that. I'm sure Jelavic would be a good signing for Rangers. I wouldn't have any doubts about him at all."

Prso joined Rangers from AS Monaco in 2004 and made 94 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals.

Honduras striker Georgie Welcome is also looking to move to Ibrox after arriving at the club for a trial period.

Rangers travel to face Clyde in a friendly tonight and Bully Wee manager Stuart Millar will tell his players to go out and enjoy the match as it may well be the last game they play this season without any pressure on them.

Millar said: "The win over Cowdenbeath on Saturday has lifted everyone at Clyde and means that we can go into the Rangers game relaxed as we have won an important cup tie and have the second round to look forward to. The players can enjoy tonight as there is enough pressure coming their way once the league games start this weekend."

Millar has listed the same squad of 16 that were stripped for action against Cowdenbeath, although he has not ruled out playing a couple of trialists.
