Dunfermline 1-4 Rapid Bucharest: Pars suffer Rapid rout

SPL newcomers Dunfermline brought the curtain down on their pre-season trip to Austria with a disappointing 4-1 defeat at the hands of formidable Romanian side Rapid Bucharest in Bischofshofen.

Bucharest, fourth in the Romanian top-flight last term, bossed the contest and took the lead from the penalty spot after a handball from Fifers captain Gary Mason.

The eastern Europeans added a second before half-time when Andy Dowie failed to deal with a cross from the left and the ball was easily knocked beyond keeper Chris Smith.

Further poor Pars defending then let Bucharest in for a third, before sub Paul Willis pulled one back on 79 minutes.

But Smith was lobbed after a comedy of errors two minutes from time to leave Jim McIntyre's men well beaten.

Dunfermline: Smith; Jason Thomson (Keddie), Potter, Dowie, Boyle; Graham, Mason (Burns), Ryan Thomson (Hardie), Cardle (Willis); Barrowman (McDougall), Buchanan.
