HEARTS 1 - KILMARNOCK 1
HEARTS slipped to 11th place in the league but, ironically, did so on a day when their second half spirit gave their support some much-needed cause for optimism. This wasn't a return to the kind of football demanded of a club like Hearts, it wasn't even a win, but it was a step in the right direction.

Hamstrung by their eighth red card of the season, they fought back from going a goal down but, despite applying virtually unrelenting pressure on the Kilmarnock rearguard in the second half, victory still eluded them.

Already missing Marius Zaliukas, Lee Wallace and Michael Stewart after the trio were dismissed during the midweek defeat to Dundee United, they were further hindered when Calum Elliot picked up two yellow cards within the space of six minutes to give Kilmarnock the numerical advantage in terms of personnel.

In the 30th minute the striker had found his way into referee John Underhill's book with a tackle on Danny Invincibile, which seemed to stem from frustration after he appeared to be fouled seconds earlier, but when he followed that up with an ill-advised lunge on Tim Clancy minute later, he left the official little option. Not that the majority of the fans agreed and while it left Hearts a man short, it did seem to have a galvanising effect.

United by a sense of injustice at the recent spate of sending offs, the supporters rallied behind their charges and rather than boo their own men, they directed their fury at the match officials.

By half-time, the visitors had converted that extra-man advantage into a one-goal lead. Jamie Hamill was the Kilmarnock player providing the superb stinging delivery, a zipped in cross from deep on the right, and it was Paul Di Giacomo, back in the fold after his loan spell at Partick Thistle, who managed to steer it into the home goal. Stealing in at the back post ahead of Robbie Neilson, he volleyed high into the roof of the net.

The match had started with Hearts trying to push ahead and neat interplay involving the likes of Deividas Cesnauskas and Robbie Neilson down the right flank was causing young Tim Clancy headaches, while Ruben Palazuelos and Audrius Ksanavicius ensured that Martyn Corrigan did not have an easy start to his Kilmarnock debut. But by the time the sending off came the visitors were just edging things, their attacking formation, with three men pushed up front, causing Hearts some trouble on the break but, perhaps with Frail's warning that he would drop players who did not show the required resolve ringing in his men's ears, the home ranks refused to fold. Rather than hiding, the Hearts players were out a full five minutes ahead of Kilmarnock for the start of the second half.

The second half saw a more upbeat performance from Hearts who seemed to grow in stature with every break forward. Kilmarnock, embroiled in a pretty tough run of their own, were partly culpable, sitting deeper and deeper, timidly trying to protect their lead, rather than trying to apply more pressure. And it meant that despite their one-man advantage the Rugby Park side were the ones having to pull off some last ditch tackles and blocks to keep the swarming home side at bay.

The first half had in fact merely been an appetiser for the main show, which was energetic and passionate. And that was just the technical areas. The tension of the afternoon obviously getting to both camps, Frail and Kilmarnock assistant manager Billy Brown had to be kept apart by the fourth official and when eventually he lost patience, Underhill was required to halt the game and provide a ticking off.

As if things couldn't get any more bizarre at Tynecastle, the verbal tit-for-tat gave Saulius Mikoliunas the opportunity to nip down the tunnel for the toilet break. But it was Mikoliunas' contribution on the pitch, along with that of his countrymen Deividas Cesnauskas and Andrius Velicka which turned the game. Cesnauskas was making his first start for Hearts since November 4, following a couple of lengthy injury lay-offs and his presence has been keenly felt. Getting wide and one of the few in the squad with the confidence still to get at the opposition, he was an ebullient addition to the starting line up, while Velicka was, once more, the man who grabbed the all-important goal.

It came in the 62nd minute. When Cesnauskas played the ball into the box from the corner, Christophe Berra headed down at the back post and the striker got in first to seize the equaliser and take his tally for the season into double figures.

He could have and would have had at least one more were it not for the never say die defending of the now under-fire Kilmarnock defence. Alan Johnston, on for Gary Locke in the 64th minute was on hand to block one effort inside the box and Simon Ford had to make two well-timed tackles in the area to deny other goalscoring chances.

Having been such an integral part of the match in the opening 45 minutes, Kilmarnock couldn't match Hearts once they got the bit between their teeth and time and time again they were too profligate with their passing, inviting the home side to come back at them. Ruben Palazuelos was the next to threaten from a Velicka cutback.

The latter was replaced by Christian Nade in the final flurry, with Michal Pospisil also sent on as Hearts sensed the possibility of their first victory since November 11. But in a game that was worthy of more plaudits than either side have merited of late, Kilarmnock were not to be completely robbed of all they had worked for. They tried to steal the winner in the final few minutes but Hamill and Invincibile should have done better. Poor decision-making and insipid finishing was their downfall leaving the sides to share the points.

It was an outcome that felt more like a defeat for the travelling contingent but on a day when Hearts rediscovered a battling attitude it was a draw which felt more like a victory to them.

Sounds like a bit more spirit about the place, shame Elliot could not channel his energies a little better.
Did I just type that load of crap?? Time I went to bed

This was probably the worst Kilmarnock team to visit Tynecastle in many a year, they have won only one of their last eleven matches and barely had enough personnel available to field a team.
However Hearts second half performance was far more spirited than we have seen for a while.
One of our better performers was Chesney, another that has faced a years innactivety thanks to our esteemed owner.
Is it any wonder the squads heads are down, its a miracle there isint an all out strike ( on 10k a week it would probably seem crass) perhaps the memory of what happened to the last three players that dared to speak out in favour of the club still permiates.
We have been sold a pup and told it is sleeping, well the truth is, it has rigormortis. It is starting to smell pretty whiffy but some supporters stil believe it is about to jump up and lick their face.

Asides from the first half today, Gretna have improved greatly.

I anticipate an all-Edinburgh battle to avoid relegation. St Mirren, Falkirk, Caley and Killie have the edge over both of Auld Reekie's finest.

Oh dear.

Oh Moira you just dont get it do you. The fans were booing Elliot for being an erse, not the decision. Although there were several Killie players who should have received bookings later in the game.
Pay attention at the back

So how the hell does Elliot get a game???? Frail speaks crap. Never mind he wont have to drop him for the next game, but no doubt will offer his shoulder for the balloon to cry on.

Ach weel, a 6 pointer that we only drew - but better than losing. With last week's defeat to Falkirk we pretty much kissed goodbye to a top 6 finish. I wouldn't bet on Gretna slumbering for the whole season so we'd better grind out any points we can.

Another low for HMFC as they slump to 2nd bottom of the SPL heap. Dressing room at an all time low as guys earning £10K per week don't play and guys making 1/10th of that do... EMBARRASSING!

The writing was on the wall with Vlad's first proclamation that "Levein will stay".

Frail statement a month ago :- "15 out of 15 points" and we get 1 point from them.

Frail statement this week :- "discipline first priority", then Elliot walks for indiscipline.

Biggest crime is Frail plays Elliot, again from start, against what 99% fans been saying and we play better when he goes off!

Frail may be clueless, but still no sign of promised manager and transfer window is now if he has ideas on new players.

Just as bad, no statements on Miko and Kurskis being punted out.

2nd bottom in league and grateful to Gretna at moment who we play twice more and yet to beat. 2points ot of last possible 24. There are some mad Hearts fans taking comfort from a home draw with Kilmarnock!!! They will think we are league winners if beat fellow pathetic club Hibs in the Derby.

New manager - NOW.

Agreed Graham #12. Hearts fans that take hope from yesterday are seriously deluded.

The two stooges spying, snitching and interfering for Romanov are a massive handicap for any new manager.

The quicker Frail is removed from the front line the better. He has not got a clue whatsoever. First of all he picks Elliot ( what is that all about Stevie Boy ??) and then when it is obvious to a blind man after his first booking he should be hooked before he gets sent off, he leaves him on the field and we all know what happened. He also had 3 centre forwards on the bench - what is that all about then ?? This whole episode yesterday just shows he is not up to the job and we need to move quickly to get a Manager in place and allow the new man some time to get some new blood in place.

# 5 What are unwanted Glaswegians doing on a Hearts thread? If our international players hadnt been tapped away by the OF in the first place ......?

If the "big 2" in Glas Vegas were actually the "great clubs" they claim to be , why do they continually have to go out and plunder other SPL players ? Are there not enough " Jakeys " coming through the ranks ?
17

Gorgie's Finest,

Frail has to go, some Hearts fans were delighted when he was given this "Free Rule" over team selection tactics etc. I wasn't one of them. Stevie is a coach and only a coach he has no experience in management and even less when it comes to tactics and picking a team. The quickerwe get in this "British Style" manager the better, thats if it ever happens, as yet there doesn't seem to be any push for a manager i know the window has just opened but a new manager might want to bring in a couple of players the longer it goes on the less chance of new players being recruited. and less chance of us being able to punt the duds.

I can't take heart from yesterdays performance at all, and can't possibly see how some can. We should be beating teams like kilmarnock both at Tynecastle and away. yet we struggle to get a draw at home now.

I've seen some dark and gloomy times at Tynecastle in 35 years of watching Hearts, this present time has to be up there with some of the worst.

It's only a game,

Ship Inn (goals) 06/01/2008 09:17:58
It seems some Hearts fans have finally woken up to the Mad ones smoke and mirrors as the crowd dropped for the visit of Killie. Hearts have been getting around the 16,500 for much of the season but with only 14,346 in the ground yesterday the penny had finally dropped with at least 2,000 of them. This is the only way to make a change at Tynie imo and long may it continue.

Well done the 2,000
19

CBJambo,

I have supported Frail all the way but after yesterday I have to say that I can't wait to see a new manager at Tynecastle.

In the 2 games Frail has chosen the team and been in charge of subs, we have been awful and I'm fairly sure that he has lost the backing of many in the dressing room (apart from the hopeless Calum Elliot that is).

Frail is a nice guy... but he is doing nothing to dissprove the theory that nice guys finish last!

Hearts must clear the decks this January and make some astute signings... even if they are fringe players from the OF (Gow, Broadfoot, Riordan, Killen) or contract rebels from Killie and Aberdeen (Nish, Nicholson etc) in order to start to salvage our season and try to finish in the top six and even have a hope in hells chance of a uefa (doubt it tho) spot.

However these type of players (Scottish based) which I believe are the kind needed to stay in the spl will only be brought in by a Scottish/English manager. If we go foreign we will end up with more continental guff, more foreign languages, more confusion, longer time to gel.... relegation dogfight!

I'm hoping come the end of the month we'll be seeing the back off...

Karipidis (half decent against Killie but no more)
Elliot (P I S H)
Basso (liability)
Pospisil (unwanted and plays like he has already left)
Mikoliunas (no consistency, questionable attitude)
Beniusis (P I S H)
Kanchelskis (not really good enough)
Ivaskevicius (not really good enough)
Makela (never given chance, questionable attitude)
Kurskis (P I S H)
Pinilla (Joke, playboy, terrible attitude, bin him)
Goncalves (not a team player, thinks he's better than he is)

... but hope will always spring eternal.
20

scorchio,

kirkcaldy 06/01/2008 09:25:58
A couple of points need clarification.
Moira...We did not miss Zaliclueless, nor did we miss Wallace. Karipidis strolled the match and Goncalves came onto a good game. Elliot should not have been in the squad never mind the team, the poor lad is way out of his depth.
The second half was memorable for plenty effort from everyone, and Kilmarnock had the MOTM in their goalkeeper, which says it all.
A long, long way to go though.
GET A MANAGER.
21

Tynie terror,

06/01/2008 10:38:23
#20 - I agree with Scorchio.
We didin't miss any of the 'three' and I thought Karipidis was excellent. His distribution, timing of tackles and attitude (he was trying to gee up the crowd on a couple of occasions) were first class! If Tall is moving on, he should stay at the heart of the defence.
Palazuelos and Chesny were also outstanding and should remain in the starting 11. It took Chesny 15 minutes or so to get going but his confidence went from 0 to 100% by the time he was substituted.
...I know this was a week Killie and shounldn't have given us problems at Tynie, but we were playing the majority of the game with 10 men, and to create the amount of chances that we did, we should have won.
I'm convinced we WOULD have won had Elliot not been sent off... and after this week of indicipline, he should have the book thrown at him! In fact I would have removed him IMMEDIATELY after his yellow! We would have still had 11 players on the field and it would have sent a message to the rest.
All in all, I thought it was a good performance and on any other day we would have scored 6 had it not been for their goalie.
22

Riley Hamish,

Edina 06/01/2008 10:53:40
Despite my prediction of a win being "misguided" I am more encouraged about Hearts fate this am.
Not because you've slipped to 11th or any such catcalls guys, but because, for the first time, I CAN see finally sense SOME upswell of Jambo fans who are finally prepared to admit that the players you've got at present are frankly not good enough. Only when that's done.....and far from all of you agreeing, even after all that's happened,......you need to find a way of coming together as a single entity to prepare the campaign for what may well be required to save your club from the ever downward spiral to ignominy....Forget this season (if you can stay up, that's success at this time) lobby for your new manager, sure....but lay plans with each other to cover all the possibilities and while I neither wish any of these nor do I seek to provide the definitive list , you might wanna think about what you might do in the events like administration, relegation, playing standards, discipline standards, further increase in debts, absence of stadium plans, season ticket take-up, demonstrations in/outside Tynie etc.........surely you guys have better ideas than me????.........but gerroff your 4rses and GET SUMTHIN' DONE NOW.
I wish you luck......(honest)
23

Tynie terror,

...oh yeah. Referee, as usual, a total disgrace!
I've no complaints with the sending off (the crowd were booing Elliot, Moira, not the ref) but Mad Vlad has definitely made a rod for our own backs when it comes to officiating IMO!
Inexplicable decisions and blind linesmen are always going to lead to yellow and red cards with the anger that arises from their incompetence!

Braes of Glenmiller,

We didn't fold, we didn't lose. We also showed enough true effort yesterday. I think that Frail has begun to get a work ethic going in the squad and very, very, very, slowly it's turning around. Not top six, but not looking over our shoulder at relegation.

It's not ideal, but I think that the "squad" is thinning itself down into those who want to be picked, and those who used to be selected by fax and still think that they should be.

We will have maybe 20 players soon who can be relide upon to put in the shift and drag us up to maybe seventh this season.

At least I think it's starting ti turn round the metaphorical oil tanker, and maybe in February we will start the long climb to respectability.
31

Jambo-ree,

06/01/2008 13:28:07
#22 Riley Hamish - you're inviting us "to forget the season" but I think that's a wee bit premature. It's not unknown for teams having a difficult time in the league to come good in cup competitions where the pressure for points is removed - evidence Dunfermline last season or Gretna the previous. I fear we can forget UEFA cup qualifaction via the league but in case you missed you missed it, we are still in two cup competitions and these I think offer some possible salvation for our season. It's always darkest before the dawn, and all that.

#16 boring. 'Tapped'? Think you'll find all your international players were hounded out by Romanov. Remember the sight of Elvis, Zico and Gordon warming the bench.

Don't think you can blame Glasgow's 'gruesome twosome' for that.

Just pointing out that at this rate Hearts and Hibs will be fighting relegation if Gretna get a few points. they are far better than earlier in the season.

How the 'mighty' have fallen.

Got the impression that YET again a Hearts player got sent off and the happiest folk in the ground were actually us Jambos.
Daft ? - Examples - Kurskis,Zaliukas and Elliot.
ALL players that Hearts fans do not want in the team.

Here is a hint Stevie Frail - Some players have been suspended recently that should not even be on the bench - CAN'T YOU SEE IT ?
Oh Yes - And by a couple of SF interviews in the papers this morning - your quotes make you out to be the exact same manager type we have always had - Inviting Vlad to help with the team indeed - Tube (If the quotes are true)

I think you make a fair point re the cup competitions, although it stretches credibility to think that you could really WIN either of them. It does however give SF a window of opportunity to get the team to play free of the self-induced serious pressure they are under in the league, and you may yet learn SOMETHING about the squad (although my own view is that 90% of them are neither good enough for Hearts, nor even anywhere else in the SPL).
I think the fates may however conspire in your favour this week (you'll tell me it's not before time I know) but I suspect that you may well be able to turn over a Motherwell side in the weekend's cup tie. I'm an unashamed 'Well fan, but there doesn't seem to be any way of knowing what kind of 'Well team will turn up after the last sad week. While I'll be rooting for them, make no mistake on that score, I DO see it as possible that IF "The Dossers" don't come out of the traps quickly and well, and IF Hearts CAN find a spirit ( a bit more of yesterday's start will be needed) and with home advantage, Hearts COULD go through OK...........but please permit me to hope that any improvement in your fortunes can wait a further week....you're not the only fans in need of cheering up !!

Still no word on a new manager at Tynecastle, this is a week past now that the announcment was made.

Come on! get a new man in place as soon as posible as Frail frightens me in charge.
On the website praising Miko of all people! as well as chesny and velicka which is fair enough but they bring something to the squad. Miko usualy doesn't.

The miko arguement has been exhausted and he did ok when he came on, hardly worthy of praise though in my opinion.
Just want a manager who can put his mark on the team, sort the indiscipline out and a bit of tactical knowledge would be good aswell.

Ian Dowie at Coventry would be worth having a go, fantastic reult away in the FA Cup yesterday against a full first team Blackburn side and already beaten Man Ure in the other Cup.
Worth a shout and would tick all the boxes

Rumour in some of the Sundays are suggesting KEvin Keegan is being strngly linked with the Hearts job along with former front runner Nevio Scala, although the later has little knowledge of the British game.

Keegan is however residing through on the West coast of Scotland at present. However, whether he would welcome a return to football, especially if he has any understanding of Romanovs dictatorship, is questionable?

Has anyone else heard any rumours about the new manager?
37

The Gorgie Boys Are In Town,

Keegan does nothing for me, wouldn't want the job anyway as he is finished with management jobs i think.
I just hope the board are keeping quiet on the candidates they want because it seems like they (romanov) made the proclomation of wanting a new boss, then give Frail the reigns and let him be the fall guy, and with his two selections including elliot and Miko so far he is going the right way to being just that.
We need a proper manager and quickly!

A lot of us automatically assumed Frail was being set up as a fall guy, however the fact he is to be part of any new set up and Hearts have said he is a coach not a manager suggests he isn't being used as a fall guy, to be booted out.

Keegan rumours keep popping up every so often was same when burley left, then when rix went and so on each time keegan has been rumoured. I remember being at a testimonial against Rangers at Tynecastle cant remember if it was Alec MacDonalds or Walter Kidds, when Keegan played for Hearts that night he was at end of his career but still made Rangers look like a schoolboy side he ripped the utter p**h out of them, remember the Hearts fans singing "Keegan sign for hearts" The guy was a legend as a footballer but not went on and been as successfull at management level.

If he was to become Hearts manager i don't think he would be a bad choice certainly got experience and good man management skills, and definately wont be dictated to.
40

Bleeding Heart...,

#25 Tommy - yet again someone draws attention to the fact that Hearts are in crisis under Romanov's mismanagement.

Yet again, people prefer not to discuss this and instead talk about a new manager, the merits (or otherwise) of the current squad, etc, etc.

What's wrong with you people? Don't you understand that Romanov is using the club as a vehicle for his own ends? Why won't you recognise that Romanov's policies have deliberately sabotaged Hearts' potential on the field?

Why don't you discuss these very real issues?

If you're content for this to continue, if you're more worried about retaining your favourite seat at Tynecastle, then in my opinion you don't care enough about Hearts.

In case you haven't realised that unless theres some multi millionaire out there with a spare 50million+ who is interested in football were stuck with Romanov.

What do you suggest we do since you're so wound up by Romanov? Ive never said the current situation is not his fault, and i dont know many that have, we all realise Vlad is to blame. And going by the statement released last week it was a weak admission on his part that his methods so far have failed.

At present we just have to hope that what was said turns out to be true and we do get a good manager in. As has been proven by the last 2 results Frail does not cut the mustard.

Rilys ect. they dont have an answer to give us but take the chance to put the boot in.We can look them in the eye and tell them we would not be at Tynie if the save our hearts fight had not been won.The Hearts fans should support there team for now(hard as it is at this time but thats what real fans do)and if were to going fight try and choose the right time and place.

#45. Dave, there are few supporters who do not believe this is the time and place.

Vlad cannot afford to walk away, his credibility in business community in Lithuania would fall further. He can get away with dancing on TV with shareholders and his sponsers, but not being associated with a failed business with a 100 year history.

We need to p#ss him off, big style, now if are to get him to focus on the team.

The busines case at moment as I would advise in my professional capacity is what Vlad has been doing - buy a club in a league with a lack of depth of quality and get relatively easy Euro qualification. Focus on the infrastructure first, team secondary at this stage, then focus on attracting corporate business and not be over concerned with original fan base.

All above pretty much going to plan. If succesful, season tickets will double eventually, making it a wealthier corporate and family business.

So, perhaps is yourself that should think deeply before making statements.

Also - You require to put spaces after periods. It's it's, not its. Save Our Hearts, should be capitalised in full or partly. It's we're not were. Spaces either side of brackets () are required. In context, you use 'there' instead of 'their'. You reversed 'to' and 'going'. Many commas missing throughout.

Fact of the matter is, Romoanov is not stupid enough to invest in a business if it is bound to fail. Yes he has made many mistakes and it has taken him almost three years to realise this. But, I personally think deep down he wants Hearts to become successful, not for the fans sake, but to increase his wealth. This will not happen until the team becomes more successful. Once this eventually happens more people will want to come and watch the team, and more businesses may want to use the corporate facilities and possibly invest.

It annoys me to see so many people saying Vlad is destroying our club. He is not doing it intentionally, but learning as he goes.

A group of fans protesting, walking out and boycotting games etc will not influlence this man. Hearts fans just have to hope for the best. In time, if the business continues to fail, Im sure he will rethink his options, sell his share and move his business interests elsewhere.

I hvae been tempted to access the debate for some time now but have kept my councel.

I fear for what is happening at Hearts greatly. The model being adopted has simply not worked. However there will be great scepticism amongst any potential candidates that this refime will allow any manager the automy to carry out the job and demonstrate their abilities to take the club forward. There is nobody denying the manner in which the club is being operated is acceptable.

However we are where we are with Romanov. I fully accept that criticism is rightly levelled at him and his people. However is appears to be forgotten as to why we are left with this man..... The reason is not back to the days of Wallace Mercer, but due to the chronic financial mismanagement of the tenure of Chris Robinson and Leslie Deans, particularly the former. I note that the aforementioned Robinson and Deans have very little to say about the current demise. Perhaps they feel somewhat responsible, god knows they should. Our former chairman, Lord Faulkes is also conspicous by his silnce. After all it was he who was lavishing praise upon Romanov not so long ago and advising shareholders to take up the UKIG offer.

I am not an apologist for Romanov, I am as frustrated by what is going on as anyone. Perhaps we should not lose sight of the reasons why this regime has been inflicted upon us in the first place.

Tommy Tommy, i wonder do you have insight knowledge into Vladmir Romanov's business dealings and that of Hearts for that matter? Or is this just more speculation like that from Hibs fans wishing it were true, and making 2+2=5

As has been quoted by both the BBC and Scottish Exec. Romanov's finances and capital are all in order. Why do they know this? Because in oreder for an overseas investor to purchase a business in this country he had to undergo strict financial checks and be able to prove where his money has come from in the first place. Do you really think if anything untoward was going on at Hearts with money etc the Scottish exec wouldnt know and you and i would certainly be the last to know. So don't keep this feeble blah blah about romanovs finances and hearts finances being dodgy going its starting to become very boring and childish hearing comments about that all the time. Other fans have said it since he took over but fail in their actual knowledge on the subject.

Having said that i will ask the question is there the possibility of little back handers or payments etc to 3rd parties? Possibly but none more than any other club would and could quite possibly be involved in and that includes the OF.

Also about the transfer of assets etc. Its called "Tax Avoidance" perfectly legal and if you ever have the need to see an accountant on business matters he will advise you on ways to avoid tax. This is different from "Tax Evasion" where the client evades paying tax this is illegal.

Vlad and his advisors have the figures worked out. If and when the redevelopment goes ahead they will recoup what is being spent and more eventually clearing debt and turning into a profit. Money will be generated not only on a football front but by the hotel, bars, shop/s, corporate events etc.

Do You think romanov is worth more than 300million because he likes buying business's to run them into the ground and lose money on them?
51

Media Scotland,

06/01/2008 19:03:46
#54 - Your last paragraph sums his involvement up perfectly. He is not here to destroy Hearts, but to make money out of it. And to do so, he has to start by building a succesful product, a succesful team on the pitch.
52

Alek Ahauf,

Romonov is making money from Hearts that is the long and short of it.
Fees are charged for each Lith player, lets say 30k a month for all of them, thats 360k p/a into the Romonov coffers for doing nothing but stuffing the squad full of useless Lith players.
The only reason he has forced managers to play Lith players is to try and justify his devious goings on.
These players salaries come from season ticket and retail sales, salaries account for 90% of income generated which i think is the highest percentage in British football, off course the more he pays players ( out of our money) the more he creams of for himself.
Burly was sacked for being successful and wanting to progress even further with the team, to do this he would not of taken any below average Lith player but would of required better, meaning Romanovs money making scheme would be jepardised, and so Burley was sacked.
Being in mid table mediocracy is where Romonov wants us, so he can continue to keep his harem of liths onboard and continue to make alot of money for nothing.
Things have gone pear shaped this season so cue his response, a couple of statements regarding a manager and perhaps a player or two, couple that with the rampant apathy shown by 99.9% of the Hearts support and hey presto he gets a way with it again!! how he must chuckle every morning when he speaks to his advisors at Tynie.
We are at the stage where a home draw with Killie is deemed acceptable and thats after 6 losses in a row!!! ahhh were all happy again Vlads looking for a manager and we got a point............no demos outside mainstand no nothing!! all away up the road like blind sheep, and Vlad probably still cant believe his luck or how naieve we Hearts fans are.
OUR TEAM IS SECOND BOTTOM OF THE LEAGUE, AND BY DECEMBER OF THE SEASON HAVE VIRTUALLY NO CHANCE OF MAKING THE TOP 6 IN THE CRAPPY SPL, TEAMS SUCH AS ST. MIRREN, I.C.T, FALKIRK, HIBS, DUNDEE UTD, KILLIE ARE ALL BETTER THAN US........ THIS IS HMFC PEOPLE WAKE UP.

It just annoys me mate when certain cretins mostly opposition fans but some actual so called Hearts fans as well keep having a go at romanov saying he is selling us down the river, asset stripping etc etc. When really there was nothing to asset strip from in the first place not when we had a 20million debt, what could he gain by asset stripping? 9million for gordon who was going to leave anyway he had said so himself, better to get 9million now than half that or less later. add that and all the other transfer fees we have recieved and its no-where near the 20million debt, which has actually risen to 40million and will be over 50million once the redevelopment goes ahead. even with the sale of tynecastle if he was asset stripping he would still be at a loss.

Dont get me wrong im by no means a big vlad fan however ive always given him the benefit of the doubt

Is he still asset stripping by building a new stand? What would be the point if he is just going to sell the club and all it's assets? Dont think any businessman no matter how rich or poor would bother building an expensive new stand if all they were going to do was sell it, along with all the players and other stands. It doesn't make any sense.

I am not a Romanov fan either but sick of people moaning about this asset stripping thing.

Hopefully now once he's realised his mistake, we can only get better. But it's Romanov, here's to hoping!

52 & 54 - right on the money in my opinion.

I can understand to an extent why other clubs fans line up to put the boot in regards to Romanov and throw about conspircy theories as they would like nothing more than to see HMFC fail, especially the bitter Hobos, that much with them is very transparent.

Nobody really knows what the future holds, even more so with Vlad as he is an unknown quantity
It does irritate when our own so called "supporters" are the first to boot the boot in to Romanov, mainly i think because of the bad press and the way he has conducted himself and more recently with the decline on the pitch, it has given the hatkickers who don't want him here in the first place more ammo.
You could argue with these people until you are blue in the face but don't see the point.
I am a patient natured person and don't demand instant this or that, or get suckered in by PR, like many people who just twist things for there own agenda.

When the going gets tough that is when you see the real fans, not the faiweather variety who are the loudest moaners and would want you to believe that they are of the majority.

One stupid poster made comment about the supporters talking about the appointment of a manager and that there are bigger issues to "discuss" as in Romanov...nearly spat my tea out at that comment.
That is the whole problem with our situation, we need a manager now that Vlad is stepping back from involvement from seletion, i/e the answer to our problems is a new manager.

Sad when some our "supporters" side with trouble making Celtic fans.

#63 is irritated and gosh nearly spat his tea out!! inbetween calling fellow Hearts fans with an opinion "fairweather" fans!! he of course is a true fan because he has no opinion............is that what a true fan is nowadays 63???? your sort will be the real downfall of this great club.
Do you have a season ticket?? if so do you think you are getting value for money??? if you subscribed to sky T.V and it stopped working would you sit and be patient and hope it came back on, sipping tea and burying your head, or would you complain about it!!
We all have opinions and many of us have been to Berwick Dumbarton Greenock etc and at Tynie with crowds below 3000 to watch very poor Hearts teams during very bad times, differance then was the heart and passion was still there from players. Not ripped out like now along with the very soul of this club, ripped out by the meddling of an ego inflated pompous idiot.
So you continue to sit and drink tea at Tynie and tut tut those passionate fans around you, continue to be patient (ffs 2 years is that not long enough)and watch the club die.

#63 I'm probably that "stupid poster" but I make no apology for criticising "supporters" who prefer to talk about redundant issues when the real issue is the fact that Romanov has deliberately sabotaged the club's potential for success.

As Alek #56 says, Romanov baulked at the idea of funding Burley's march toward the title. Not only did he dispose of Burley but he then systematically dismantled Burley's squad - the best we've had in 20 years.

No Hearts fan in Romanov's position would have dreamt of taking these actions! But then, the fans actually care about the club, don't they?

It's hard to disagree with Alek's conclusion that a mediocre Hearts team suits Romanov's nefarious purposes.

Romanov's policies are the reason the team and the club are in a mess.

Romanov has absolute power and only he can effect a remedy. Don't you think it's reasonable therefore for the fans to target the source of these problems in order to seek a resolution?

But, as someone said the other day, there's no reason for us to believe what Romanov says any more. Only tangible action will suffice from now on.

You seem to believe that "Vlad is stepping back from involvement from seletion, i/e the answer to our problems". I hope so, but I want to see it happen before I buy it.

1. "Levein will stay"
2. "George Foulkes will continue to serve as chairman"
3. Annual £10M transfer budget
4. "No debt by 2005"
5. "World class manager" = Rix
6. "We will sign 2 World Cup stars"
7. "Presley is our rock"
8. "Tynecastle will be redeveloped"

10. "We have submitted a planning application"

This is part of the problem, the "i'm more a supporter than you" and yes i have a season book in the wheatfield, have done for last 12 years for what it's worth.
I am as worried about the situation as anyone, and Romanov has let us down a few times, but we have extremely high expectations as fans and he fed these to the extreme when he arrived. Allied to the relief of keeping us at Tynie and getting shot of the pieman.

A 5 year plan was his strategy and i'm prepared to give him that. Just doesn't make sense to take us down the pan.
As i said when things aren't going well on the field then it gives people who doubted him from the start there justification whether it be true or not.

Forgive me if im wrong but could one of you lot please explain the purpose of having a business? Im aiming that question at Tommy Tommy, dublin hibs, bleeding heart and Alek Ahauf.

Because i was always under the impression it was to make money.

David murray Rangers, Tom farmer at Hibs, etc must be puttin all their money in and not getting any back, so the 8.8 million hibs have recieved for transfer fees has just vanished it wasn't real is that what your saying?

Just more bull from people looking to nitpick at Hearts finances going on about transfer money etc. Again i ask the question of you all. have you inside knowledge that neither the press or other fans have or is it continued speculation.

And before you question my loyalty to Heart of Midlothian i have been a season ticket holder for nearly 20 years. I have followed Hearts all over Europe etc. So unless your an actual hearts fan or have anything worthwhile to contribute to a debate without going over the same horse sh*t again and again then i suggest you try it elsewhere as me and a lot of other genuine Hearts fans are gettin a little bit sick of other teams fans and so called hearts fans pouring out their bile and false concerns.

You hit the nail on the head m8, a lot of people are expecting overnight success, of course the Burley scenario has not helpes that the way we started under him, and have deteriorated since. This bull people come up with saying "Champions legue winners in 3 years" is utter tripe if they actually watched the programme or listened to inerviews given at the time they would know the actual quote was "I want Hearts to be at the top of Europe within 10 years" His only quotes not to have come true so far have been "League champions within 3 years" so what if it takes 5 years or 6 years to win the league. Romanov so far has achieved a Scottish cup win and split the OF for a chance at Champs league qualification. Not bad i'd say for only being in the door 3 years. So his methods are not the norm or what were used to, but like anything new he is learning.

#73 There's no doubt the purpose of running a business is to make money for yourself, yes.

However, there is a growing suspicion that Romanov is achieving this aim (what he wants) at the expense of on-field success (what the fans - any fans - want).

Most of us thought that Romanov would seek to make money by employing a high-calibre manager and funding the signing of quality players.

In fact he did do this and then did an about-turn. Any ideas why..?

#74??? Over 3 years is hardly OVERNIGHT!!!!

Nov 2004. Romanov - "Mission No 2 is to become as ig as Celtic and Rangers". Was that Shamrock Celtic and Berwick Rangers??

Aug 2005. Romanov "I want to be Scottish Champions in 3 years time. If we can do it sooner, then so much the better". Well that's THIS season he's talking about - doesn't look like going to make it!

Oct 2005. Romanov "Our goal is to become Champions of EUROPE (in 3 years according to Scotsman professional reporting) , where to come back without the trophy would be shameful." Now here he may have meant amateur dancing??

#72. You are not Gorgies Finest brain - we are 2nd bottom and not beaten the side below us this season. If we win the derby, against team with 2nd worst league record in last 10 matches, you will have us as on road to recovery. Romanov has danced whilst we get 2 points out of possible 24.

Good on you for picking up quotes from the Scotsman Now go watch the second BBC documentary that was shown 2 months after winning the Scottish cup and come back and tell me i mis-quoted what Romanov said on camera, not through a pr person speaking to a newspaper.

#80-81 Guys - I think we all agree Romanov is entitled to make money from his investment in HMFC.

But at the risk of boring you further, what I think we need to know is why Romanov has sabotaged the quality of the playing personnel.

If Romanov's idea of making a profit is NOT via building a successful team that wins trophies (which is what I'd have thought was his aim), what then is he up to?

He's not daft. He knows his policies are designed to ensure that Hearts are fielding mediocre teams. So, how IS he making money from his control of HMFC?

But surely the main question for all of us is to ask whether or not it's in our interests, as fans and customers, for Romanov to deliberately undermine Hearts' playing potential?

There can surely be only one answer to this question, and the only person who can change things is Romanov.
