JONATHAN RICHMAN
Because Her Beauty Is Raw And Wild
****
Vapor Records 2453180, £13.99
It seems remarkable that Richman has been recording for nigh on 40 years, the deceptive naivety that characterises much of his work still making him sound disturbingly youthful.

Because Her Beauty Is Raw And Wild is rather dark, especially his latest version of Modern Lovers favourite 'Old World', but as one of music's last great originals, who would begrudge that. 'Time Has Been Going By So Fast' is tinged with a strange sadness, but with JR you barely notice.
