FERGUS Ewing, the Scottish Government minister and Nationalist MSP, has become a father for the first time.
His partner, Dr Fiona Pearsall, gave birth to a baby daughter, Natasha, weighing 8lb 2oz, at 1.49am yesterday in Glasgow.
Ewing is the son of the veteran Scottish Nationalist Winnie Ewing. His late wife Margaret Ewing, who was also an MSP, died from cancer in 2006.
Ewing, the minister for community safety, said: "We are on cloud nine, and extremely thankful to Dr Alan Mathers and his team at the Princess Royal maternity unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary."
An SNP insider and friend of Ewing said: "Everyone is delighted for Fergus and Fiona. Exactly a year to the day since the election, they have delivered another gain from Labour."
Ewing was elected to represent Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber in the Scottish Parliament in 1999.
