NORTHERN Ireland should be an inspiration to those around the world seeking peace, Pope Benedict XVI said yesterday.
It has shown that conflict, no matter how ingrained, can be overcome, the pontiff told Ireland's new ambassador to the Holy See, Noel Fahey.

The two met at the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo, around 19 miles south-east of Rome.

"The Northern Ireland peace process has been a long and arduous endeavour," he said. "At last there is hope that it will bear enduring fruit."

Just like the pope has overcome his ingrained Nazi past?

He may be on to plums.

Perhaps the peace would have come sooner if Their Predecessors, the Supreme Pontiffs, had made more efforts to condemn terrorism.

God bless this wonderful Pope for drawing attention to those good hearted people in Northern Ireland.
Regretably, the comments on this site reflect the bitterness of those who stoked theviolence with their bigotry for far too long.

Cripes, did you get THAT wrong, CatholicPete!

Guga, myself amd Timbo are all anti-religion!! Douglas and Uriah might be too!

The bigotry came from YOUR lot AND the PRODDIES!!! Bigotted against each other!!!

I think to try to shovel the blame on we non-religious types is just a wee bit more than disigenuous at the least!
