WELCOME to Scotland on Sunday's online feature, Question of the Week.
Each week we ask the readers of scotlandonsunday.com for their views on a burning issue from the past seven days. The best responses may be reproduced on the Online Forum page in Sunday's print edition of the newspaper on July 6.

If you wish to appear in Scotland on Sunday, then, along with your response, please leave a first name and surname, as well as your location - eg Tom Smith, Edinburgh. We welcome all comments.

Of course Scottish MP's should not vote on English matters.SNP MP*s do not do that on a matter of principle. The only rationale for Scottish MP's being there at the present time is that there are reserved matters held by Westminster. As independance or increased poers approach the rationale for having MP's at Westminster diminishes. There will always be a relationship with London, but it will be become different.

and what exactly are the issues that affect only people in England and Wales? Tuition fees? Well Scottish students can study south of the border, so MPs from up here should be able to have a say. There are also cases of Scottish NHS patients being sent to Newcastle for treatment. While my taxes are being spent in England i still like to have a say on what is going on there.

The answer has to be "no". It is illogical and to some extent incredible that 300 years after the Union the Scots can do as they like led at the moment by Alec Salmond. The logical way out has to be the federal system where about 12 "states", Scotland being one, each with about 5 million inhabitants, make up USGB. The US system is often ridiculed, for good reason, but with British know-how we should be able to avoid the possibility that only the very wealthy can stand for president.

I don't want Scotland to be relegated to the status of a 'state', and I like the Scots "doing as they like led by Alex Salmond". But while the Union totters towards its end - in answer to the question - I think that Scottish MPs should not be allowed to vote on matters that concern only England. It is manifestly unjust, and our English cousins are right to resent it.
