Let gardens not concrete bloom
I HAVE followed the correspondence on the topic of the garden tax with interest.
Like other readers I am surprised that the MSP for the Green Party is advocating this punitive tax on us gardeners and I would like to make a point before the concrete is poured. It is generally accepted that climate change will produce much more rainfall in the UK. Insurers are already recognising that there will be an increase in localised flooding in the foreseeable future. If my memory serves me correctly a major contributory factor to city flooding is the lack of gardens, as many have been converted to car parks, thus reducing the rate of water absorption in urban areas. A secondary point is that in times of emergency we can produce our own vegetables. Remember 'Dig for Victory'?
