THIS photograph, of a herring gull and its chick, was taken last summer on the Isle of May. "There is a wealth of birds there to photograph," says Gill Bell, "so it's well worth a visit." The island, in the Firth of Forth, can be reached by ferry from Anstruther or Crail. Visits are only permitted between May and September, so that the island's seal pups are not disturbed.

Can you do better than this? We are looking for the best amateur photography in Scotland. The choice of subject – people, industry, nature, scenery – doesn't matter. The pictures just have to be eye-catching.

Send your photos, a brief description and contact details to: Alan Macdonald, Picture Editor, Scotland on Sunday, 108 Holyrood Road, Edinburgh EH8 8AS; or e-mail almacdonald@scotlandonsunday.com
