Growing old no barrier to helping out

People in their 50s and 60s are being challenged to seize the opportunity help improve the lives of people in their community.

NESTA, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts, today launched the second year of its Age Unlimited Scotland initiative, aimed at making ageing a more fulfilling, healthy and socially inclusive experience.

In year one of the initiative, Third Age Fun and Games in Edinburgh won funding for its social venture, enabling older people to learn to play computer games while at the same time having fun.

Now NESTA is looking for individuals to come forward with ideas on how to improve a broader range of public services in their area. A series of workshops will be held in February where applicants will have the opportunity to refine their idea and pitch for up to 10,000 each in June to get the concept up and running.
