WILLIE NELSON & WYNTON MARSALIS
Two Men With The Blues **

Blue Note Records 50999 504454 24, £11.99

This unlikely musical summit – between country king Willie Nelson and jazz supremo Wynton Marsalis – took place at a concert at New York's Lincoln Centre last year. While there was obviously a real party atmosphere on the night, notably on the first few tracks, it doesn't translate too well onto CD; this session has a "you had to be there" quality which is often the case with live recordings. The odd couple hit their stride half way through, on a laid back 'Basin Street Blues', but other tracks, such as 'Stardust', disappoint.
