Thanks to computer technology, piano legend Art Tatum's 1949 concert at the Shrine Auditorium was not merely spruced up for this CD: it was "re-performed". Tatum's dazzling pianistics were fed into a superior piano to the one he played 60 years ago, and played back to an audience at the same venue last year. The results are astounding, and it really does feel like a new, contemporary, live recording of Tatum, with all the warmth and feeling that characterise his style.
