Tenor saxophonist Bud Freeman made his name in the 1920s as part of Chicago's famous Austin High School gang. In 1976, when these two live sessions were recorded, the 70-year-old was still blowing with the energy and flair of a saxophonist several decades younger. Freeman powers through an exhausting 12 standards – so much so that it's a relief when the pace slows to a medium tempo.
