ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM & GAL COSTA
Rio Revisited
***
Verve 0602517680302, £9.99
Originally released in 1989, this is a live recording of a famous 1987 concert in which the father of bossa nova, the composer-pianist-vocalist Antonio Carlos Jobim, was teamed with Gal Costa, one of Brazil's most popular singers, with backing from an all-star cast including Mauchna Adnet and various younger Jobims. The result is a must for Braziliana fans, but it's short on appeal for lovers of jazz.

JOE TEMPERLEY
The Sinatra Songbook
****
Hep Jazz CD 2093, £11.99
Hep Jazz CD 2093, £11.99This CD from the Fife-born veteran baritone and soprano saxophonist is the second Sinatra tribute CD in a matter of weeks, but given how much it swings it's probably the one which Ol' Blue Eyes would have favoured. Temperley is in terrific form throughout, serving up robust yet dynamic playing on the up-tempo tracks and beautiful balladeering on such sublime Sinatra classics as 'Nancy'.
