MORTON consolidated their First Division status by one goal and consigned Clyde to a play-off clash with Alloa following this thrashing of Partick at Firhill.
First-half goals from Brian Wake and Kevin Finlayson killed the encounter as a contest before Wake added a third to seal the vital three points which keep the Greenock side up, despite Clyde's 3-0 win over Stirling.
The sizeable and vociferous
travelling support almost turned this into a home tie for Davie Irons' men, with a large percentage of the 4,914 crowd wearing blue and white. And Morton played with the hunger and desire that was required on a day like this when, before kick-off, they sat one place above Clyde thanks to that better goal difference of one. They were comfortable at all times throughout and led by two goals at half time which actually flattered the home side.
Wake has turned out to be a key signing since joining a few months back from champions Hamilton, and it was he who struck first within 15 minutes.
Finlayson, who fired in number two just before the interval, served up a tasty cross which Iain Russell headed down in the box. Englishman Wake wasted no time and buried a superb volley past Jon Tuffey in the Thistle goal to delirious celebrations from those visiting fans.
Wake sealed the win 11 minutes after the restart when he collected Ryan McGuffie's pass before clipping his effort over Tuffey from eight yards.
