Queens' defensive frailties, with just one clean sheet in their previous 13 matches, have been all too evident for Gordon Chisholm for most of the season. And his worries weren't eased in the first minute when Lee Makel was given far too much time to fire the ball only just off target with a 20-yard shot.
During a pretty stagnant first period, devoid of ideas, passion and creativity, Livingston might have edged in front in 31 minutes when Jason Kennedy worked his way through after Robert Harris was easily dispossessed, but his netbound angled drive from the left took a fortunate deflection off the outstretched boot of defender Andy Aitken and screwed just wide of the far post.
Passes went astray from both sides with monotonous regularity with neither goalkeeper having a shot of any substance to deal with in a desperate first half, which had more of the hallmarks of a meaningless end-of-season encounter, than the first match into the second half of the league programme.
Twice the woodwork came to Livingston's rescue, substitute John O'Neill heading against the bar when easier to score in 72 minutes, and four minutes later Paul Burns enduring a similar misfortune with a 18-yard drive, until the late winner.
