MORTON turned in a five star display and yet for all their dominance threw away two points with a dramatic late fightback by Livingston.
Morton might have gone in front after eight minutes when Peter Weatherson showed his sharpness with a clever turn and shot on the angle, 15 yards out, which was superbly beaten away by goalkeeper Roddy McKenzie.

'Ton were in rampant form. Sixty se
conds later Brian Wake brought the best out in McKenzie when his shot was pushed round the right hand post. Wake was involved again in 12 minutes when put in the clear by Jim McAlister, but Livi skipper James McPake made a terrific goal-saving tackle.

Morton finally made the breakthrough one minute later when Alex Walker swung over a teasing cross from the right which Wake slid in from eight yards to knock the ball beyond McKenzie. It was no more than Davie Irons' side deserved.

Morton went two up in 16 minutes when Stevie Masterton's corner from the right was head flicked, at the near post, into the roof of the net by Ryan McGuffie.

The Greenock side might have been in double figures with the chances created – and scorned.

Livi trialist Armand One hit the crossbar at one end and Wake at the other before nine minutes from time Leigh Griffiths rammed the ball home from 10 yards to pull a goal back for Livingston.

Then, in 86 minutes, Chris Smith headed into his own net after a cross from the left by Tony McParland.
