MORTON and Livingston took a share of the spoils but referee Willie Hornby made the headlines after producing two soft red cards to visiting players.
Both Murray Davidson and Alan Walker were sent off in the closing stages, but neither looked guilty of anything other than bookable offences. It was a controversial ending to a poor game, goals from Jim McAlistair and Robert Snodgrass seeing the enc
ounter end 1-1.
Morton enjoyed the better of the first 45 minutes and deservedly led at the interval thanks to McAlistair's well worked opener. The winger, in fact, was unlucky not to have grabbed two goals in the half after a 20th minute strike was ruled offside. However, McAlistair was not to be disappointed and he played a tremendous one-two with Allan Jenkins before sidefooting past Livingston goalkeeper Colin Stewart in 29 minutes.
Livingston saved their closest call of the half until the 40th minute, when Steven Craig struck the inside of the post. The Almondvale side didn't have long to wait after the break to level things, however, and it came courtesy of some luck. Graeme Dorrans' speculative effort brushed off Snodgrass and flew into the net, leaving Morton custodian Lee Robinson motionless.
The chances were few and far between after that though Livingston's Dave MacKay came close to a winner when he struck the crossbar with only a few minutes remaining. Then came the double sending off which even Morton manager David Irons described as "very harsh".
