LIVINGSTON ended a four-match losing streak in style by hitting six goals past ten-man Morton. In their previous meeting at Almondvale, the Lions romped home 4-0 and yesterday's performance was equally impressive against a side who will now cring
e at the thought of revisiting West Lothian.
The game was evenly contested in the early stages, but Morton suffered a major double blow in the 16th minute which left them reeling. Steven Craig burst through towards goal and went down in the box following Kevin Finlayson's challenge. Referee Scott MacDonald immediately pointed to the spot, Finlayson received his marching orders and Mackay cooly dispatched the ball into the roof of the net.
Livingston stretched their lead when Mackay delivered to Tomas Pesir and the Czech's drive went in off the post.
In a bid to get back into the game, Morton manager Jim McInally brought on Scott McLaughin and Jamie Stevenson after the interval for Kieran McAnespie and Weatherson.
But the switch didn't work and Psir grabbed his second, taking advantage of a through ball from Des McCaffrey.
With 20 minutes left, Alan Walker made it 4-0 with an unstoppable left foot drive. Substitute Colin McMenamin made it 5-0 with a stunning first-time volley before another replacement Leigh Griffiths completed the demolition with a tremendous solo effort. Ian Russell pulled one back for Morton from the penalty spot in the final minute.
