MSPs were challenged by the Justice Secretary yesterday to back his plans to extend tagging to more prisoners or live with the consequences.
Kenny MacAskill warned prison officers would pay the price if MSPs again rejected Scottish Government plans.

MSPs on Holyrood's Justice Committee last week voted down an order to increase the amount of time that prisoners can spend on home detention curfew from four-and-a-half months to six months.

About 330 prisoners are on home detention curfew, and MacAskill's move would increase that by between 50 and 120. The MSPs had wanted a 'sunset clause' to end the order once a new prison at Addiewell, West Lothian, was completed. Ministers will make a second attempt to get the measure through Parliament on Wednesday.
