A POLICE officer remained in a critical condition yesterday after being run down while trying to arrest a fraud suspect.
The hit-and-run happened as Detective Constable Catherine Corbett and three other officers, all from West Midlands Police, attempted to arrest a man outside the Sheraton Skyline Hotel, near Heathrow Airport in west London, on Friday.

Corbett, 39, of Solihull, West Midlands, was hit as the suspect reversed away from the scene in a blue Peugeot 207.

She underwent surgery last night at Charing Cross Hospital.

Police arrested a 41-year-old man in Bordesley Green, Birmingham, on Friday, on suspicion of the attempted murder of Corbett.

A woman in her early 30s was also arrested in connection with the inquiry, after she attended a London police station.

The collision happened just after 8am in Bath Road. Police said Corbett, who joined West Midlands Police in 1989, received serious head injuries, while two male officers sustained minor injuries after being carried on the Peugeot's bonnet.
