Inverness CT 0
STYLE without substance is uniquely useless and incredibly frustrating. There are clubs whose fans are happy with pretty football that gives no guarantee of an end result, but Hearts are definitively not that club.

For 80 minutes yesterday, the G
orgie side were once again in serious danger of dominating Inverness, of playing all the football, of weaving all the pretty patterns and showing all the endeavour, but of coming up short thanks to a chronic inability to convert pressure and territory into goals.

Twice this season Hearts have had the Highlanders under the cosh only to be undone by their profligacy in front of goal. To the noisy frustration of the Hearts fans, yesterday looked like groundhog day until 18-year-old Gary Glen's deft one-two with Ruben Palazuelos ten minutes from time was followed by the most emphatic of finishes from the teenager to settle a match that should have been well beyond Craig Brewster's men long before.

With Saulius Mikoliunas and Deividas Cesnauskis showing verve and invention in their approach work, Hearts fashioned a welter of chances and sometimes it seemed as if it would have been easier to have scored from the positions they created than to have conjured the spectacular misses. Cesnauskis set the tone when he shot against Caley Thistle keeper Michael Fraser from point-blank range after Glen had skinned Richard Hastings for pace down the left wing and stroked across a teasing cross. Goodness knows how the ball didn't end up in the net.

Glen himself had blasted over the bar moments earlier after Jason Thomson had run from the halfway line to make the overlap before driving the ball across the penalty area for the young Hearts striker. Central defender Christos Karipidis added his own dose of waywardness in front of goal too: his first header over the bar from a Cesnauskis corner was hardly a capital crime, but when he rose unopposed moments later from another corner to crack the ball off the crossbar, the home side had missed another gilt-edged opportunity. There were even signs that Hearts could have cause to rue their inability to break the deadlock when Steven Banks was called into action three times in the dying minutes of the first half. Don Cowie's rasping free-kick was a straightforward enough save, but Banks had to move with a good deal more urgency to keep Doug Imrie's header and Dennis Wyness's low shot ending up in his net.

Hearts started the second half the way they had begun the first, with a toxic mix of shot-shy strikers and dire execution. Substitute Lee Wallace was the most obvious offender, first having a shot smothered from close range and then, his nerve clearly shot after that miss, passing aimlessly into traffic when he was through on his own with only Fraser to beat. Spasms of frustration rippled through the stand behind the Inverness goal at that decision.

There was at least one thing to ease the end of season ennui. He may have only got one touch after coming on in 90 minutes, but at 16 years, one month and 14 days, Scott Robinson yesterday became the youngest Hearts player to grace the SPL.

Nice to see the Scotsman journos are actually watching the game. Dearie me. Still, profligacy seems to be the word of the day. Cute.

#2 He was taken ill on Thursday in training, the club doctor said at 10am Sat morning that Kingston was more interested in watching the Chelsea-ManUtd game... whoops... I mean that he was still too ill to play.

And here was me thinking the game had finished with a win for the Jambo's.

But No!, Inverness Caley Thistle equalise in the 540th minute of stoppage time...

Oh I get it now, I'm reading the Scotsman and they like to keep us guessin eh?

Or maybe, just maybe, the reporting in this rag has just plumbed new depths...

I reckon It's the last guess myself...

It was 1-1, the ref awarded Caley a goal after the final whistle, the ref was not available for comment, the 4th official said that the ref can do what he likes, he is in charge.

Despite headline, the 2nd win, in the bottom 6 by one late goal must tell Romanov it is not good enough.

Because Gretna are down and this years bottom 6 are fortunate not to be fighting relegation, these may be meaningless competitive fixtures but as training games, wouldn't it be better if a new manager was learning from them than Frail.

Following Hearts Chairman, Roman Romanov's accusations of corruption in Scottish football, Walter Smith, the highly respected pillar of football society has come out in his support by citing specific examples and naming individuals.

After this really poor season, could the Jambos still amass more points than the 'flair team' of Embra?

Just as I was thinking that the Scotsman had actually sent a reporter to the game - writing a proper match report containing some information on the game, they balls it up again and get the score wrong!
I am sure that they do employ a sports editor down there, someone needs to wake him up.

Not checked out the Hibs story yet - I guess they won 3-2?

#13 "Scoop"...Not read the Hibs write up either, but I can see
"Hibs Robbed",
"Hibs luck deserts them",
"Hibs were a delight to watch",
"Mixu is a tactical genius"
"Aberdeen hoofball & bad refereeing, prevent the Arsenal of the north from win".
If none of the above, there will be something pathetic, along those lines, written to perpetuate THE MYTH!
14

Whats the script?,

A massive 8,800 turned up to watch the sheep v flairmeisters. 15,500 turned up to watch a meaningless game at Tynecastle.
Proof if proof needed that SPL needs Hearts in the top six.
Hearts thought they would give Hibs a wee bash at qualifying for UEFA for a change and they are making an erse of it. Normal service shall be resumed next season cos Mixu's muppets are just incapable & ungrateful sods.
15

Anglo Jambo,

Chorley 27/04/2008 11:20:37
Just think if we took the top 5 clubs already in play offs and added the three fighting for final place Abereen, Falkirk and Hearts and used points gathered counting games between those teams only. Hearts would have been a head of Motherwell, Hibs and Aberdeen and Fakirk. It was the bad results against the bottom clubs that cost us dearly, no more so than Gretna and Kilmarnock
16

Anglo Jambo,

Chorley 27/04/2008 11:29:49
If Hearts gather more points than Hibs then wouldn't it be a good idea to have a final derby for say Edinburgh cup. It would be a crowd puller with both clubs and sets of supporters out to prove a point. O k it would be meaningless in lots of ways but think of the bragging rights and club pride to see who really is the champions of Edinburgh.
17

GrahamH,

Edinburgh 27/04/2008 11:34:05
#12. Mikey, tell the guys in primary 4 that it doesn't matter if we do. Whilst we play Gretna and Inverness, Hibs play likes of Celtic and Rangers.

Can't believe even the most diehard of our supporters would take any consolation in that.

Would all hobos note I am trying to be (semi) gentle on poor Mikey and not attack ruthlessly for trying to find any crumb of comfort.

#15 living in hope of Romanov coming good on his promises, but calling Mixus team muppets when they at least made top 6 seems ridiculous.

Just think, if you didn't count any of the games you lost this season you'd be undefeated. And if Hibs took the first 9 games and multiplied that by 3.5 they'd.....have more points.

Sorry to disappoint you but the point of a league is that you play everyone x amount of times ( farcical split notwithstanding ) and add up all the points.

It's like that every year.

Denis Law,

This is excellent news for Vladimir and business. Glen Gary will be next player for selling at £9m.

This very important for money to pay interest and build new stand. Maybe new stand can be named Glen Gary Stand?

I am quoting facts and you are talking ridiculous. My point wasn't against the Hibs or any of the other clubs in top 6 it is about our own inability to beat clubs we are expected to defeat. Yes do agree split is farcical.
21

Guiseppe Tortolano,

27/04/2008 12:50:07
I was 'talking ridiculous' to prove a point. I took your thinking and extrapolated it to a farcical extent. So farcical that it would be obvious I wasn't being serious......

Scottish league is stock for laughing around world.

It is crazy Hearts have more points than Aberdeens yet are bottom them in league.

But still, Hearts will have excellent chance to win bottom 6 championship. If Hearts win bottom 6 championship will they have parade around city to show supporter medallions?

Vladimir can have supporter pay money to have photograph with medallion. This can raise very needed money to pay youth team player wages.

Hearts should have won this game by a bigger margin with 3 good chances in the first half alone, Karipidis comming close with his set piece header hitting the woodwork . Much the sme in the second half as ICT played on the counter attack . However the cream always rises to the top and Glen scored a well worked goal with Ruben in a short neat pass and move .
Glen has provided a breath of fresh air in a disappointing season so it would be good to see some more of the youth players getting their chance in the last few games .

Awfie quiet across on the Flairmeisters thread today - just 6 posts before I added my tuppence worth. Just wondered if they were enjoying the top 6. Played two, won none and the OF and M'well to come.

And tut tut tut - TWO players red carded. They'll be getting their collective collars felt by the SFA/SPL next. Meanwhile in the bottom 6 we're getting the chance to blood youngsters. 16 years 1 month and 14 days - any of their wunderkids from their conveyor in their wholly owned training facility beat that? Thought not.

Maybe, just maybe, a bottom 6 finish in this cr@ppy season will do more good than harm in the longer term.

You have to say that Serg, Denis and Riley could actually be the same entity, they could all be the work of the one diseased brain.

as for the website... how terribly unoriginal and typical of the Hibs posters on here to copy the original RH bebo site instead of coming up with their own ideas... one step behind right enough eh?

Still the original and best though has to be...
