Let's see New Labour's gallery of misery!

Jack McConnell is still hiding away and not talking to the press. He still hasn't had the courtesy to ring Alex Salmond and congratulate him. He's just like a spoilt wee bairn.

Congratulions SNP.

We are all crying with joy over here. Good Luck Alec Salmond. you are our HERO. All the best from all of us here in the northeast USA. We knew you could do it.

Just attended a debate last night at the Wigtown Spring Book Festival - Mike Russell SNP stole the floor. Just like Alex Salmond - knowledgeable, calm, great presentation, great arguments. No dirty tricks / slagging off the opposition like Labour had to resort to. So proud of him!! Gaun yersels', boys and girls - show the world what we're made of!

13 Bobbie

I thought that all the SNP people who spoke after the election did so with style and graciousness.

Angus Robertson went out of his way to say that we should feel sympathy for losing candidates (of other parties) as for some they were losing their careers.

I thought that some of the victorious Labour MSPs in Glasgow were, to say the least, scarily aggressive!

Well done to Colin Keir, Gyle Barnton. My young brother. Dont agree with the politics but I'm very very proud of him. A better representative for his constituents would be difficult to find.

Great pictures.
Very quickly read a couple of Sunday papers very little mention about the anti SNP comments from some press on the day of election.
How about analysing the results had it been the other way around.
We should have been reminded about Labours record i.e. Iraq, Broons Stealth Taxes, Wipe out of Fishing Industry, Cash for Peerages, Quangos and lots more.

19

Owain Glyndwr,

Llongyfarchiadau i'r SNP o Gymru
Congratulations to the SNP from Wales

You are an inspiration to us. You have showed that Labour and their vested interests can be beaten by honest and positive politics. People want to be inspired by credible politicians they trust.

Plaid is once again the official opposition in Cardiff. Five more gains from Labour and we are the largest party - that is the task for 2011.

The people of the 'Yr Hen Ogledd - The Old North' (Strathclyde and Lothian were once Welsh speaking lands) have done progressive civic nationalism proud.

Great Pictures!
These pics show how a party should conduct themselves, is there anyone from New Labour taking notes yet?
Does this mean that the Scotsman / Scotsman on Sunday are perhaps begining tho think about climbing down from their entrenched "we will always support Labour" line?
Having stayed up throughout the night of the election I can say that I was impressed with the attitude and presentation of the S.N.P. candidates victory speeches throughout Scotland. Sadly that can not be said for Labour. There were a number of Labour candidates, people who should have known better, who were almost abusive in the extreme when giving their victory speeches. Labour should take a leaf out of the S.N.P. book, on second thoughts take the whole book.:)

21

megz,

#15 i agree about the victorious labour candidates specifically the Glasgow ones. As i said before there seems to be a mob mentality with them as if it is them against everyone else, they need to remember were the establishment! The one that really riled me was the one that was accusing the muslim guys of letting the SNP down by heckling him, though it has since come out it was the christian party.

It's shite being Scottish! We're the lowest of the low. The scum of the f***ing Earth! The most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat on civilisation. Some people hate the English. I don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are colonised by wankers. We can't even find a decent culture to get colonised by. We're ruled by effete arseholes. It's a shite state of affairs to be in.

But not for much longer

AS Well,

usa 06/05/2007 12:51:15

Congratulations to all of Scotland!

Your victory is in all the news in the USA, too. never doubt that this is a significant event for the world. You have done well, indeed.

All those Scottish ancestors who fought and struggled over the centuries for this dawning moment of Freedom and Independence did not push for freedom in vain.

In your unity I wish you continued strength and the goodness to move forward to a fully free Scotland while remaining a good neighbor to England.

We did it over 200 years ago, you can do it now without all the bloodshed ! And just see, today the English Queen comes to visit us, referring to us in her speech as a "country" not a colony. And she calls us "friends" now after all the seeds of independence have sprouted and grown.

I hope we Americans can continue to apprecieate this profound gift of self-governance. I hope Scotland will hold this gift dear as well.

Bravo!

AS Well,

Hey, leave off Her Maj! She is Elizabeth the First, Queen of Scots and should continue to be our Head of State if, or when, Scotland leaves the Union. I wish our fly-by-night politicians were as dignified and true to their oathes as she has been. Big Sean for President? He wishes. Scotland is one of the oldest kingdoms in Europe and I sincerely hope we continue as a constitutional monarchy, come what may. Look at all the north European countries the SNP so admires; nearly all are monarchies and are stable, free and successful. Keep the grubby politicos' hands off one job at least.

35

The Bias Police,

Aberdeen 06/05/2007 14:15:57

The Bias Police wish to congratulate Alex Salmond and the SNP on a superb election campaign and the achievement of a result that few would have thought possible. This was achieved in the face of the normal media bias and aggression and Labour's shameful attempts to intimidate and scare the Scottish electorate.

Labour cannot accept defeat and this is evident by their sour grapes performance in threatening legal action - they should grow up and give up. The stranglehold of this mafia has been broken and we sincerely welcome the new Scotland that is opening out.

Let's hope a more confident, vibrant and energetic Scotland is emerging and let's hope that labour's future campaigns will not be based on talking down their own country and people.

democracy,

Selkirkshire 06/05/2007 14:42:44

It is just so unfortunate that the neo-Thatcherite party are still getting the votes they are, and so obviously from a portion of the electorate that are completely ignorant of politics and are the "Uv aye votid laybur cos ma faither and his faither afor im votid laybur ind a ayeways wull vote laybur" brigade. That was actually what a man said, when asked at an exit poll on TV on Thursday, and is what this country is up against and the quality of New Labours vote in Scotland which is a shame really, that few of them seem to realise that New Labour are no more a labour party than the Tories, and are a total disgrace
to their fundamentals ie; "The Fabian Society", what a sham of a party!!

Congratulations SNP, been a long time coming.
However, being Canadian and knowing what a mess there always is in Quebec over Separation I am quite sure this is only the beginning and everyone better be ready for the long haul.
The battle has already started over Holyrood seat. With such a close result it will constantly be swinging back and forward. Let's just hope that no matter what the final outcome everyone can live with it peacefully. Unlike the rest of the world.

A Message To Alex

The SNP have a big swing,
Labour have a slippery slide,
the merry-go-round has spun the right way,
and today Scot’s can all stand with pride!

The Scottish people have spoken,
the Scottish people have put their faith in you,
‘The Union’ may not yet be broken,
but independence is clearly within our view.

Yet there are decisions to be made,
compromises that lie ahead,
the people won’t forget what you said,
so think, before you get, into anyone else’s bed!

Do not compromise on independence,
stand alone, rather than drop it,
the Scottish voters and their dependants
want it,
and nothing now can stop it!

Stanley Bruce,
Written 4th May 2007.

A NATION AGAIN - A song for Alex Salmond

EVERY RIVER MUST FIND ITS OWN WAY TO THE SEA
LIKE THE SOUL AND THE SPIRIT SEARCH TO BE FREE
THERE’S A VOICE IN THE GALE & A CANDLE BURNS BRIGHT
A PATH THROUGH THE DARKNESS, A LIGHT IN THE NIGHT
SEE A PEOPLE’S HISTORY REFLECT IN THEIR EYES
FROM THE ASHES & EMBERS THE PHOENIX SHALL RISE
THERE’S A PASSION INSIDE, LIKE A FIRE IT BURNS
THE LONGING & PAIN OF A COUNTRY THAT YEARNS

Chorus:
FREEDOM O FREEDOM COME RISE UP AND SEE
A NATION AGAIN, STANDING PROUD AND FREE
FREEDOM O FREEDOM COME RISE UP AND SEE
A NATION AGAIN, IS OUR DESTINY

WHEN YOU HEAR THE DRUM ROLL & PIPERS LOUD PLAY
IN PRINCES ST GARDENS ON A FINE SUMMER DAY
OR AT GLASGOW GREEN WHERE THEY MARCH SIDE BY SIDE
LET THE SKIRL O’ THE PIPES FILL YE WITH PRIDE!
IT’S OUR PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND PEOPLE LIKE ME
WE BUILT UP THIS COUNTRY, THE STRONG AND THE FREE
TO BE EQUAL ‘MONG NATIONS ACROSS THE WORLD
WITH OUR VOICES HEARD AND OUR FLAG UNFURLED

Chorus

THE GREAT GLENS AND MOUNTAINS OF OUR HOMELAND
BELONG TO THE PEOPLE, IT’S WHAT NATURE PLANNED
O WAKE UP FROM THE DREAM BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE
FREEDOM’S YOUR BIRTH RIGHT; FREEDOM’S YOUR FATE
FOR THE SAKE OF OUR CHILDREN, THEIR RIGHTS TO RECLAIM
FOR FREEDOM ALONE, NOT FOR GLORY OR FAME
DON’T CURSE THE DARKNESS HOLD UP YOUR LIGHT
LETS PULL TOGETHER - RIGHT IS OUR MIGHT

51

Patrick Scott Hogg,

Caledonia 06/05/2007 23:13:39

On Thursday Caledonia cried tears as she looked at the Unionist tabloids, but her tears were JOY and she smiled as Alex and his team came home for her - here is her song

The Dreams of Caledonia

I see her hold the morning, wi’ tears in her eyes,
I see her in the rays as the sun climbs o’er the rise,
I see her on the mountains, where wild winds blow
I see her by the forest stream, where bluebells grow
I see her in the gloamin, when the sun sets on the sea
She’s the spirit o’ Caledonia, longin to be free

Chorus: O o o oh, let the drums begin
O o o oh, one battle left to win
O o o oh, we’ve got to make a stand
Win back Caledonia, our heartland.

I was brought up to be proud o’ a’ the work I’ve done
To be honest an think for myself, like father like son.
We worked by sweat-an-toil, tae fish the wildest seas
Freedom, it was in our veins, just like a summer breeze.
Rugged as the headland, he taught me right from wrong
This land it is our homeland, and to us it should belong

The spirit of Caledonia runs deep within my veins
In my head and heart, it is she alone who reigns.
Her native tongue’s neglected, her Independence lost
Her resources stolen by the rich, the poor man pays the cost
Her children are exploited; tied, taxed, and bound
Her country owned by foreigners, we've not an inch of ground
The Dreams of Caledonia are to see her people free
Free from fear and hunger, to live with dignity
Her food can feed our children; her fuel will keep us warm
Her wealth will build us houses, protection from the storm
We are her sons and daughters; brothers, sisters too
The time is come to stand up and make her dreams come true

Can we really believe that the penny has dropped and finally, we are beginning to be confident in ourselves, our nation and our potential? I never thought it would happen so quickly--thanks to all those who brought this about, and I hope all the doom-laden, chicken-licken fearties eg Gerald Warners etc-- can now relax and let progress take place. Such a parcel of rougues in the Scottish Labour Party can now slink away with their hand-shakes. Well done! Veronica @ The Two Bridges. South Queensferry.
