IN KEEPING with the key moment of Hearts' derby win, Yves Ma-Kalambay didn't throw his hands up afterwards, refusing to accept culpability over Andrius Velicka's decisive strike. Indeed, the Belgian under-21 internationalist claimed play should have been stopped before he fumbled a header from the Lithuanian striker.
"I am not upset with myself about the goal and it is not as if it was a mistake or anything," he said.

"It was such a close header and I tried to stop it and I didn't do it quite well enough. It was more reaction than anything else.

"Sometime
s you have to hope for the best, to be in the right position at the right time. I was fouled before it. The guy (Velicka] in front of me pulled my shirt. He did a good job because the referee didn't see it. But if you pull my shirt when I am trying to move then it is a foul."

Ma-Kalambay was mocked remorselessly from the home stands following the goal, as the Hearts supporters chanting his name feasted on another weak moment from a Hibs goalkeeper in their backyard. "Let them sing whatever they want," the keeper said. "At least they know my name. It is some kind of celebrity for me."

Hibs manager Mixu Paatelainen refused to take Ma-Kalambay's name in vain, pointing to the fact that Velicka was allowed a header in the six-yard area.

"It wasn't a goalkeeper error," he said of the slack shot-stopping. "It was a set piece and we lost an important header just before that and then the knock-down. I'm not blaming Yves, I'm blaming plenty of other players. It is not case of pointing the finger at one."

Paatelainen claimed his team were worthy of point for their efforts after the interval. "We didn't play well in the first half. We lost the ball too easily and our passing wasn't good enough," he said. "But in the second half we were much better and I am disappointed to lose because we had a few chances. Then Hearts weren't interested in playing, they only wanted to defend their lead, which they are entitled to do."

Hearts keeper Steve Banks believes the club's first win in 11 demonstrates the belief the players have in Stephen Frail. "His heart and soul is in the place," Banks said. "You see that every day in training and I hope it is rubbing off on us. We want to do it for him. You see that in the way the lads are performing. We are right up for him being the manager."

FFFHibs could still be playing right now and be no nearer scoring a goal.
Dreadfully scrappy game but I would take that result every time. Purism can come after points have been clocked up.
While being hellish pleased at the result I feel obliged to note the following negatives - One which I will keep until the FFFHibes mention a certain something first ( I am not going to give them ammunition after all)

Karapidis - Shockingly good.(shocked and very pleased)
Neilson - Shockingly sound. (I am NOT a fan of his but he was solid)

Goncalves - Incredibly awful. It does not bode well for FFFHibs when Pantyliner spends all the first half watching our left back getting shredded and yet does not tell his players to concentrate on Goncalves' flank for the second half. Mixu - This time - amateur. We need a left back as this is happening all too often. When Jose first played for us I was astounded at his raw talent - He has regressed though. Sell him - Freight train accident waiting to happen.

Stewart - (Though reportedly unwell) - His passing was woeful. Practically every game this season Mickey has shown a great appetite and workrate for the games but always with one thing in common. The majority of his passes go to the oposition.Think back games or watch recordings if any folk have them - His passing is dreadful.(A shame as his lead up work is spot on )

Driver - How many games have we actually come away from thinking "that guy had a good game today with a good end product" - Very few. Many games he is more like a passenger. We keep on saying he is young and will progress , but we have said that about a few young ones over the last two years without the said progress(Elliott,Mole,Wallace etc).If his father enveigles a move to the Old Firm for six figures as he is reportedly attempting..................................would it be too bad a thing ?

Miko - Header was a sitter - Simple as that.

All other players (except Banks who spent the game reading War and

Sorry - the Driver comment should read "seven figures" not six.

To be fair to the big keeper he did bring off a pretty stunning save just before the goal from a deflected shot. We werent closing them down outside the box and Stewart could have played keepy uppy (if he had the skill) before shooting several times. No final pass either - we had all the possession in the second half but either did nothing with it or hearts didnt allow us to - not sure which. boozy was pretty pants again - if hes going to be that inconsistant wats the point of having him. Murray had a steady return i thought. Deano was invisible this week. Hogg was pretty good tho i wish the ball hadnt fallen to him in the penalty box in the second half.

All told not a brilliant Saturday - it would have been interesting with st mirren and gretna winning. But hey life goes on at least with hibs being this bad we'll be in with a chance of a revenge derby in the bottom six.
