GOOD WEEK
SERGIO GARCIA

The Spaniard won his first PGA Tour title in three years after beating Paul Goydos in a play-off to claim the Players Championship – the so-called "Fifth Major" – at Sawgrass.
Garcia's victory was the first by a European at the tournament since Sandy Lyle's 1987 win.

BAD WEEK
DAVID MILLAR

The Scots cyclist saw his dreams of a win ended by a snapped chain on stage five of the Giro d
'Italia in Conturso Terme.

Going into the final kilometre of Wednesday's stage, Millar was in the breakaway group but he threw his bike in a ditch in frustration after it prevented him finishing.

WHAT THE PAPERS SAID… on a court decision to overturn an IAAF ban on 'blade runner' Oscar Pistorius competing against able-bodied athletes using prosthetic legs known as Cheetah Flex-Feet

DAILY RECORD
Pistorius has a massive task to make the Olympic qualifying time. But he will have no shortage of opportunities to do so with a string of European nations, including Britain, queuing up to invite him to events.

THE SCOTSMAN
The blades allow him to cover more ground per stride, reduce the build-up of lactic acid in muscles and expend less energy. But the court decided they simply made up for his disability compared to other athletes.

THE TIMES
In a relatively brief career, Pistorius has engaged experts and fans alike as one of the most charismatic of emerging athletes, triumphing over the adversity of being born with no fibulas.

RIP
ROBERT DUNLOP

The Spaniard won his first PGA Tour title in three years after beating Paul Goydos in a play-off to claim the Players Championship – the so-called "Fifth Major" – at Sawgrass.

The motorcycle racer died at the age of 47 after suffering severe chest injuries in a crash in Thursday's practice session at the North West 200 in County Antrim.

Dunlop's brother Joey, a legendary figure in British motorcycle circles, died while racing in Estonia in 2000.

Robert Dunlop, who holds the record for the most wins at the North West 200 meeting with 15, retired from racing in 2004 but returned to action the following year.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK

"Not good enough. Supporters are the lifeblood of a football team. So don't p*ss them off. Don't put out a sub-standard product and expect fans to keep buying it…"
Radio presenter Mark Donaldson delivers his end-of-term verdict on Hearts – in the club's own programme

"The reality for most of us is we'll be out of work. But I was pleased for Gavin. Good things happen to good people and he gave us a little bit of joy."

Gretna caretaker manager Mick Wadsworth, left, enjoys a flicker of light amidst the gloom after Gavin Skelton's goal ensured their last game in the SPL ended with a win against Hearts

"I'm young in life, but starting to get old on the tour. I'm growing up and I need different things…
A new future is ahead and I won't go back on this decision."
Women's tennis world No.1 Justine Henin, left, announces her retirement from the sport at the grand old age of 25
