Sin: there

Pronounced shin, as in the part of the body under the knee. It is one of the first words learnt by a Gaelic-speaking baby, the phrase for 'there it is' is Sin e – pronounced shin e. A common phrase is Sin agad e – shin aghad e – meaning there you have it. This is often used at the end of an explanation to conclude it and is much more common than the English equivalent. A nice phrase to know is Nach e sin – Nakh e shin – meaning indeed. This is another of the phrases which means something different depending on the tone of voice. Nach e sin, can be the equivalent of "Yeah, cool!" if said in a positive tone. In another tone it means "Yeah, right."
