NETHERLANDS RADIO PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
Bruckner: Symphony No9

*****

Exton OVCL-00276, £13.99

Anton Bruckner's Ninth Symphony was nine years in the making, and not just because of the composer's poor health in later years. Aware that Beethoven had completed only nine symphonies before his death, he seems to have taken this as some sort of omen, dedicating this work to God. Not only did illness interrupt his schedule, but Bruckner seems to have taken every opportunity to compose other works rather than finish this.

This performance by the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra is a live recording, though you would hardly know it. Well worth hearing.
