Campaigners claim Britain could become "the abortion capital of the world" unless a less casual approach is taken to terminating pregnancies, but should the upper limit on abortions be reduced from 24 to 20 weeks?

I think it's odd to focus so much on whether it's illegal to terminate a pregnancy in week 25 but not week 24, or week 21 and not week 20 for that matter. The decision should be made on each case and whether there is a dire need to carry it out (ie depending on the foetus's condition and the state of the mother)

As shocking a figure as the number of abortions performed in Britain is the number of teenage pregnancies (far in excess of our European neighbours). Doctors know that only a drastic cut in the 24-week limit would have much impact on numbers of abortions. But even that would barely make a dent in the real problem – our dangerously cavalier attitude to casual sex.
