CELTIC are set to make a summer swoop for Newcastle defender Stephen Carr,
but face a battle with West Ham and Everton for the Republic of Ireland player's signature.

Carr, 31, is set to quit St James' Park this summer on a free transfer after falling out of the first team picture.

He would jump at the chance to join his boyhood heroes, but knows he would have to take a cut in wages.

Celtic splashed out £2m to land German international Andreas Hinkel in January. But with back-up Mark Wilson struggling with injuries, boss Gordon Strachan could land the experienced Carr as cover.

But Everton and West Ham, as well as several English Championship clubs, are also keen on the defender.
