Spring Travel: find an alternative with Solas Festival

All summer music festivals claim to be different but Perthshire’s popular Solas Festival actually is. Running since 2009, Solas is an alternative to overpriced, corporate events.

Located next to the Tay in Errol Park – between Perth and Dundee – the festival has come to be known for showcasing the very best of homegrown talent, as well as offering a wide selection of alternative activities, discussions and events.

Each year’s Solas chooses a different theme and this year it’s Human Touch, as the organisers believe “there needs to be more humanity in our conversations, our worldview, and our approach to developments such as AI and our impact on the environment”.

Solas aims to address the need for more humanity in our conversations with a programme packed full of the arts that still makes space for challenging debate with activists, writers and thinkers from across the political and cultural spectrum.

The first musical acts have just been announced with Glasgow’s funk and soul juggernaut Tom McGuire and the Brassholes leading the line-up. There’s also digital dub fusion of Scottish music and Gaelic song from An Dannsa Dub, Americana harmonies from Glasgow’s The Niche Family and “underground pop” from Perth’s groundbreaking Parliamo.

There are more acts to be confirmed and there’s even still spaces to volunteer in various roles if you’d like to attend for free.
