The Bach Dynasty
*****
Ambroisie AM125, £13.99
Genius fathers often overshadow even highly talented sons, something that was never more true than in the case of Johann Sebastian Bach, but the reverse is also true: Wolfgang outshines his father Leopold Mozart, and Johann Strauss the rest of his family.
Yet instead of reinforcing JS Bach's supremacy, this hugely enjoyable CD of music by the father and his sons, Carl Philipp Emmanuel and Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, actually demonstrates how talent evolves even in the shadow of a famous father.
This music demonstrates why the Bach family enjoyed such popularity. Huge fun.
