JOHN PIZZARELLI
Let There Be Love
***
Telarc 83518, £7.99
The prolific singer and guitarist John Pizzarelli's latest release is an unashamedly romantic collection of songs – four of which reveal his talent for writing in a retro style. Pizzarelli's voice is a love-it-or-loathe-it affair (dreamy to some, whiny to others), but what's indisputable is his excellent taste in collaborators. And on this CD, he and pianist Ray Kennedy are joined on a few tracks by Ken Peplowski (clarinet), Harry Allen (tenor sax) and, of course, the original jazz guitarist of the family, John's father Bucky.
