Classical violin star Itzhak Perlman's fascination with jazz dates back to 1975, when he recorded Joplin rags with André Previn. Nineteen years later, he teamed up Oscar Peterson with much success, as this reissued CD shows. Perlman's violin underlines the warmth in Peterson's bluesy playing and there's an easygoing rapport between the classical soloist and the jazz quartet. I wouldn't say Perlman swings like Stephane Grappelli, but he does far better than some classical musicians who've dabbled in jazz.
