"There is still a significant 30% genetic difference between Scots and the English".
That is really very significant when there is apparently only about 1% or 2% genetic difference between humans and monkeys.
Oppenheimer's findings do not seem to tally with the research work of other people. However, the fact remains that the English think, act and are different to the Scots.
Guga, no. 1: "However, the fact remains that the English think, act and are different to the Scots."
Does it bolster your sense of identity and worth to cling to that?
In the following, try substituing 'Scot' and 'Englishman' (or anything else, for that matter) for the words 'Jew' and 'Christian:
"Hath not a Jew eyes? Hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions, fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?"
Take a step back, take a wider view, if you can, and you will see that we are far more similar than different. Forget petty differences and you will find the English and the Scot can live together – which is about the best thing human beings can aim for, be they man and wife, sect and sect, or nation and nation.
That's you told Guga.....I think!
What a load of #¤#¤#. this makes a big difference.Aye right! come on eh. is this gonnae make us like The english? dinnae think so. wee are and wee allways will be different from them. culturally and significantly.
And we all came from Africa to begin with. This petty squabling is holding us all back.
How Many "Scots" can claim to be from Scotland and nowhere else ?
Gie Few , and theyre aw deed.
Are there any McAtkins out there?
#3 Nope, it didn't. Never was a fan of Bill Shakespeare anyway, or the Merchant of Venice.
The fact that we can get on reasonably well as neighbours, within limitations, and the more so after we get our independence back, does not detract from the fact that they are different to us, in many ways. I still maintain that they do not think or act like us, and their culture is different too.
Presumably #2 would be quite happy with chimpanzees as neighbours; after all, they are only genetically about 2% different to humans.
The origins of our species will probably never be completely discovered and that's a good thing. In the end, we all came from the First Woman who was a bit abnormal from her hairy tribe of upright apes!
We're all children of a mutant!
Somebody call Professor X!!!
We are all children of God.
Go in Peace.
