"London-based film experts" If it had been in Hindi, or some Arab language it would have been acceptable to them.
And it's not that the film was bested by another. They decided not to put any film forward.
"Without explanation or justification, a committee of six unnamed individuals in London decided not to exercise the British right to be part of that." Says it all really. Another benefit of the Union.
Linda Fabiani should be approaching the Academy Awards organisation independently in order to secure the right for Scotland to nominate films on it's own. Or would that be too much like independence for some.
This is a really disgraceful decision by BAFTA. I'm an American, and I know that a lot of foreign film buffs like myself use the annual list of national submissions to guide what I see during the year, trying to see as many as possible.
I have not seen "Seachd", but I have heard a lot of good things about it. I think it's a huge mark of disrespect that BAFTA determined that neither film was worthy to represent the United Kingdom in the competition. It is my opinion that, like the Olympic Games, most of the countries that enter the competition enter to REPRESENT their country and not to win the award....
I'd like BAFTA to respond to exactly what the "cons" are to submitting one of the two films presented to them.
I hope very much we get to see the film here.I hate the Oscars anyway & stopped watching.
Typical navel-gazing English mentality. Unfortunately there's always a few Scots who will whige about a 'Gaylick' film being made in the first place.
The film is a masterpiece and a credit to Scotland and her ancient Gaelic culture.http://www.seachd.com/
Typical BAFTA cock up, they are a very flawed organisation.
Alison Forsyth (BAFTA Scotland) should be getting on to Chief Exec Amanda Berry and Anne-Marie Flynn head of Awards demanding a proper explanation.
BAFTA Scotland members pay their dues expecting their own native culture to be recognised alongside generic English fare.
This is a poor oversight by a fanciful Metropolitan elite more interested in getting good seats and after-party invites.
Like Anthony I have not seen the film either but I have heard a lot about it and I have read a review of the film by none other than the writer of this article. Here is a link to his piece on Seachd which confirms the obvious worth of this film.

Another example of the "union dividend".
Saor Alba.
In reality this is such a little thing, but the deeper meaning of this decision is simply this: political independence for Scotland is inevitable, because of the sheer lack of understanding in the metropolitan establishment of what the 'Union' is.The nether parts of England are equally ignored, but the change here since May is gradually building irresitible pressure, and little things like this will just pile it on.
Hopefully all those who are enraged by BAFTA's decision will actually shell out to go and see the film. A far bigger problem for Scotland are the 'armchair army' who dont actually bother going to the cinema to see home grown product but are the first to whinge about its absence!
Has anyone considered the possibility that the film just isn't up to much?
I can understand the producer's disappointment at the film being "knocked back" just as I can understand my own disappointment as a taxpayer.
No one likes to watch a "turkey", but it's worse knowing you've paid for it as well.
First of all there are a lot of sleepers that are great films that never get any Oscars. Tunes of Glory was a magnificent film and as I recall it got a Venice Award but no Oscar. I KNOW WHERE I AM GOING is one of the best romantic comedies of its kind but it was also ignored by the Oscars. I follow Scottish culture and I am well aware of SEACHD and I will definitely see it when I can (probably on DVD). I am sure the number of DVD'S (and CD'S)sold in America on Scottish themes must be significant just as Mr. Fraser at MusicScotland.com
It may sound crazy but there is a market for Gaelic langauge music and VIDEOS in the USA and other countries. Scotland may be run by lowlanders and North Britons but there are more people of Highland descent in Canada, USA and Australia than all of the United Kingdom.
Gu pearsanta, tha mi ann geall MO CHRIDHE air a'fhaicinn.
Cha tig SEACHD e an imisg dha.
"Gaelic feature film The Inaccessible Pinnacle has been robbed of potential Academy Award glory after London-based film experts took the controversial decision that it was not even worth nominating for a foreign language Oscar. "
Earbaidh a Dia; an-earb an Oscar Committee.Rinn actairean feum den tuigse Gaidhlig aca.Rinn iad film Gaidhlig. Thugadh amach a 'chiad duais leis!Tha caileigin de mthaith air!Thug iad gu crich an gniomh.Thachair an saoghal sassunaich ris.Tha Beurla agus Gaidhlig beo le cheile.

NE OBLIVISCARIS...DO NOT FORGET
Has anyone thought it could be the directors fault for slagging them all of in FESTIVAL?
He potrayed the "London" Elite as a bunch of brain dead zeitgeist sniffing morons.
Case proven.
sorry producer.
If it or they are useless in (dare I say it) English ie they cannot compete produce it in Gaelic. If you don't win then and are still useless claim race discrimination everybody else does. You'll make a million in publicity alone.Alec the Salmon will quickly have to think how he (asnd them) can make trhe most of it politically.
I have seen the film during the Festival in Edinburgh and it is absolutely stunning. One of the most beautiful films I've seen in a long time. The decision of BAFTA is an absolute disgrace!
Suas leis a'Ghaidhlig!
