What has this got to do with a publicly funded BBC as a public service broadcaster to provide us (supposedly) with non-ratings-driven quality programmes, as opposed to this commercial program venture?
Simon Nelson Controller Portfolio & Multimedia, BBC Vision will be doing a keynote at the Edinburgh Interactive Games Festival. However, the focus of his speech is on what the BBC can learn from the gaming industry (and vice versa). The presentation will not reveal a major move into the games industry and is in fact just reflective of the way in which various sectors of the entertainment industry are now converging and can learn from each others methods of working.
This is what a spokesman for the games festival told me in an e-mail:"I'm afraid Simon Nelson from BBC Vision isn't willing to give interviews in advance - mainly because unofficially he's told us that his speech will be making some major announcements about the BBC's future strategy with gaming."This is what the BBC told me when I contacted the press office on Friday:"We will get back to you."
